Shortly after his birth, his family moved to Oregon, Staying there two years; then they moved to Washington for two years. Not liking the climate, they returned to Iowa. They moved to Miami County, Kansas in 1869. Thomas was married in Louisburg [Miami Co], Kansas on November 20, 1883, to Louzie Ann CROTCHETT, the daughter of Lorenzo Dow and Elizabeth TANNER Crotchett. In McPherson County they had three children; Levi Dow, July 25, 1884; infant daughter, July 25, 1884, died July 25, 1884; Perry Allen, February 13, 1886. The last three children were born in Louisburg, Kansas; Vernade Wade, April 15, 1888; Isabella, August 18, 1890; and George Floyed, July 20, 1892."

In 1827, he emigrated to Indiana and settled six miles south of Franklin, Johnson Co. where he died aged 65 years. Two of his sons, Thomas and John F. volunteered for the Mexican War and fought in the battle of Buena Vista and some other engagements. John F. was killed on the plains while on his way to California in 1853.

The former Margaret Mears was born April 3, 1888 in Loreto to Mr. and Mrs. Martin Mears and was educated In that area. She worked in Chicago and Marshfield as a telephone operator before her marriage to Dave Woodruff Oct. 20, 1915 in St. Joachim's Catholic Church, Pittsville. The couple lived in Marshfield for one year before moving to Vesper, where she has since resided. He died Dec. 4, 1948. She was a member of St. James Altar Society and Vesper Senior Citizens Club. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. James (Marie) Dederich of Vesper; one son, Dave Woodruff of Vesper; four grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Sadie Volk, Greenway Manor at Spring Green. Three sisters, three brothers and her parents are deceased. Friends may call after 3 p.m. Friday at Higgins Funeral Home, Wisconsin Rapids, where a parish rosary will be at 8 that night. There will be visitation at the church beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday.
