Life EventDateDescription
Birth5 September 1943David William Baumgarten was born on 5 September 1943.
He was the son of Martin H. Baumgarten and Clara Elise Anna Luetkens.
Death3 August 2017David William Baumgarten died on 3 August 2017 at age 73 David William Baumgarten, 73, of North Freedom, died on Thursday, Aug. 3, 2017, and because his savior Jesus Christ conquered death, he was welcomed into eternal life on that very day. We know, as Jesus promised Mary, “I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live.” John 11:25.

David was born to Martin and Clara Baumgarten on Sept. 5, 1943, in the town of Freedom who baptized him in Christ on Sept. 26, 1943. He was confirmed in the faith in 1957 at St. John Lutheran Church in Rock Springs.

David graduated from Webb High School, Reedsburg, in 1961. On Aug. 17, 1968, he married Carol Behn at St. Peter’s, Loganville. Carol and David were blessed with two children, Jeff and Sara.

He lived the life of a servant, walking in the step of his Lord, serving his family, his neighbors and his nation. He served his nation in the Army National Guard, as a husband and parent, in countless musical endeavors, and as a leader in his church and community. In his work he was conscientious, dedicated and loyal. Dave could talk to anyone, whether a friend, customer, or stranger, and make them feel comfortable. He lived by example, and his example will stay with us always. “For the Lord is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.” Psalm 100:5

David is survived by his wife Carol; son Jeff, his wife Rebecca and children Liam, Koen and Lilah; daughter Sara Kreuter, her husband David, and children Elswyth and Thaleia; brother-in-law Bill (Tricia) Behn; brother-in-law Carl (Kay) Behn; brother-in-law Richard Lauersdorf; aunt, Violet Vinz; uncle, Melvin Baumgarten; aunt, Mary Ellen Baumgarten; and many beloved nieces and nephews. He will be dearly missed by his family, church families and many friends and neighbors, so many of who have given their support during this sad time.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings Lois Strobel, Lyle Baumgarten, and Charlene Lauersdorf; brother-in-law Richard Strobel; sister-in-law Lorna Baumgarten; and numerous aunts and uncles.

Funeral services for David Baumgarten will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 7, 2017, at St. John Ev. Lutheran Church, in Rock Springs with Rev. David Karow officiating. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in North Freedom where military rites will be conducted. Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 6, 2017, at the Redlin Funeral Home in Baraboo, and again from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church.

“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Romans 6:23

In lieu of flowers, memorials in David’s name can be made to St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church, in Rock Springs.
