Westedt, age 63, of Loganville, died Thursday morning, May 16, 2013 at St. Clare Hospice House following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on February 9, 1950 in Reedsburg, the son of Eric and Marie (Trachsler) Westedt. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force serving from 1969 to 1974. Harlan was a lifelong farmer in the Town of Franklin. He also worked as a rural mail carrier for many years. Harlan was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed his trips out West and to Canada. He was especially proud of his multiple mounted trophy collection. Harlan loved farm life along with his prized John Deere tractors. He also enjoyed sports and spending time with his family and friends. Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law: Tricia and Corey Denman, of Portage; his grandson: Mason Denman; his sister and brother-in-law: Judith and Bill Courtney, of LaValle; his nephew: Danny (Jane) Nobs, of LaValle; his special friend: Pam Wollin, of Loganville; other relatives and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his daughter: Tiffany Jo Westedt and his parents. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 P.M. on Sunday, May 19, 2013 at the Hoof Funeral Home in Reedsburg with Douglas Westedt officiating. Interment with military rites will be at St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery in Hillpoint. There will be a visitation from noon until the time of the service on Sunday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials would be appreciated. A special thanks to Home Health United Hospice and also to Merrill, JoAnn and Brian Denman. The Hoof Funeral Home is serving the family.

On June 24, 1950 he was married to the former Clara "Tina" Nachtigal. Vern worked as a carpenter most of his life. He was also a police officer for the City of Reedsburg, a bus driver for the Reedsburg School District and a cabinetmaker for B & H Lumber in Reedsburg. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, gardening and baseball. Vern was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church. Survivors include his wife, Tina; two sons: Douglas (Patricia) Westedt, of LaValle and David (Dana) Westedt, of Reedsburg; eight grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by three brothers: Eric, Walter and Paul; and two sisters: Lillian Venden and Eleanor Reimer. Private family services will be held at the Hoof Funeral Home in Reedsburg with Pastor Kurt Klingbeil officiating. Interment will be in St. Peter's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Peter's Lutheran Church or the Reedsburg Veterans Memorial would be appreciated. The Hoof Funeral Home is serving the family.
