He married Jean Chilcote on Aug. 5, 1985, in Dallas. The couple moved to Custer, then to Sioux Falls in 1995. He worked in sales at Dakota Auto Parts and worked as a carpenter. He retired in 1984.

He was a member of the Elks Lodge No. 262 and attended St. Joseph Cathedral.

Survivors include his wife, Jean; two sons, Daryl of Coppell, Texas, and Mark of Sioux Falls; four daughters, Sharon Rentz of Rapid City, Sandy Krueger and LeeAnn Neisius, both of Sioux Falls, and Rose Steffen of Garretson; 17 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Lorraine Sterret of Pipestone, Minn.

Funeral Mass begins at 10 a.m. today at St. Joseph Cathedral, with burial in Woodlawn Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be conducted by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 628.

Visitation began at 4:30 p.m. Friday at Barnett-Lewis Funeral Home. A Scripture vigil was held at 6:30 p.m.

She married Ralph Offerdahl on Oct. 14, 1930. They lived on his father's farm. Mr. Offerdahl died in June of 1936. She married John Larson on June 1, 1952. He died in December of 1986. Mrs. Larsen made her home with two friends, June Overby of Alcester and Doris Schempp of Beresford, S.D. She moved to Morningside Manor on March 21, 1995.

Mrs. Larsen was a member of Brule Creek Lutheran Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Shirley Jensen and her husband Gorden of Gettysburg, S.D; one brother, Gilbert Ellingsen of Alcester; three grandchildren, Greg Jensen, Sharmie Henderson and Shannon Johnson; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her son Edward, who died in Korea, her brother, Elmer Ellingsen and a sister, Gladys Hartman.

He loved golfing and was the greens keeper at the Alcester Golf Course for 13 years. He enjoyed fishing, playing horseshoes, and was an avid pinochle player. Gilbert loved his family dearly and was a friend of both the young and old.

He was preceded in death by his parents, infant son Jon Gayle, two sisters, Selma Larson and Gladys Hartman and his brother Elmer Ellingsen.

Gilbert's survivors include his wife Maxine Ellingsen of Alcester; three sons: Bruce Ellingsen and wife Anna of Council Bluffs, IA, Charles Ellingsen of Brookings, SD and Lynn Ellingsen of Moore, OK; seven grandchildren: Andrea Stahl and husband Chuck of Omaha, NE, Heather Burns of Chicago, IL, Jody Aadland and husband Aaron of Sioux Falls, Stephanie Ellingsen of Harrisburg, SD, Jerry Ellingsen of Colorado, Raylene Ellingsen of Moore, OK and Gabriel Ellingsen and wife Jennifer of Moore, OK; six great grandchildren: Connor Stahl, Samantha Trebil, Tristin Trebil, Soren Aadland, Gabriele Ellingsen and Ashlynn Ellingsen; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM, Wednesday, April 30, 2008 at Nathanael Lutheran Church with burial at the Nora Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 2PM to 8PM with family present from 7PM to 8PM and a prayer service at 7PM at Wass Funeral Home in Alcester.

She was baptized and confirmed at Dalesburg Lutheran Church and has been a member of Nathanael Lutheran Church for the past 60 years. Maxine was an avid reader. She loved to cook and bake, liked to play cards and games with her family and friends, and exceeded at putting puzzles together.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, infant son Jon Gayle, three brothers, Conrad, Milton and Eldon, and five sisters, Myrtle, Ona, Evelyn, Ethel and Marcella.

Survivors include three sons, Bruce (Anna) Ellingsen, Council Bluffs, IA, Charles Ellingsen, Brookings, SD and Lynn Ellingsen, Moore, OK; 7 grandchildren, Andrea (Chuck) Stahl, Omaha, NE, Heather (Jim) Fidler, Buffalo Grove, IL, Jody (Aaron) Aadland, Sioux Falls, SD, Stephanie (Rob) Maier, Tea, SD, Jerry Ellingsen, Fort Collins, CO, Raylene Ellingsen, Moore, OK and Gabriel (Rachel) Ellingsen, Mustang, OK; 12 great grandchildren, Connor Stahl, Katherine Grace and Emma Fidler, Samantha and Tristin Maier, Soren, Macy and Jonah Aadland, Gabby and Gage Ellingsen, Ashlyn Ellingsen and Emma Pothujsie; sister-in-law Ardis Johnson; and many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM, Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at Nathanael Lutheran Church, Alcester, with burial to follow at Nora Cemetery, rural Alcester. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church.
