Donald Robert Siblerud
Life EventDateDescription
Birth23 November 1922Donald Robert Siblerud was born on 23 November 1922 at Montana.
Marriage17 January 1948He married Violet May Hamblin, daughter of Ivan Ray Hamblin and Elsie Elizabeth Mercer, on 17 January 1948.
Death16 July 2011Donald Robert Siblerud died on 16 July 2011 at Montana at age 88 Donald R. Siblerud, 88, passed away Saturday, July 16, 2011, at Immanuel Lutheran Home.

Born Nov. 23, 1922, he worked, laughed and played endlessly with humility and grace until 88 years of age, when he left this life July 16 and is standing tall and strong in heaven. He was born Donald Robert to Emelia and Martin Siblerud at the family farm in Egan, the youngest of seven children. He grew up tending the farm, clearing land and riding a horse to Egan school every day, rain, snow or shine. He graduated from Flathead County High School in 1940.

Don didn't travel much as a youngster. In his words, "Are you kidding? We were too poor to travel out of the county in those days." As World War II came along, he went to California to work at North American Aviation building P-51s and B-24s. One year later, he joined the service, enlisted in the Army Air Corps, became a B-24 pilot and was assigned to Deming Air Force base in New Mexico to train bombardiers. He flew into the Pacific Theater in his B-24, first to New Guinea, then to Okinawa, Japan, finally flying reconstruction forces into Japan prior to VJ Day.

After the war, jobs were scarce, so he ventured to Alaska where he met a California beauty named Violet May, nicknamed "Jo," while working as an electrician on warships during WWII. They met on a blind date and the number 444 became "their number" as they were engaged in Army truck No. 444. They were married Jan. 17, 1948, in Anchorage.

In 1948 Don and Jo came back to Kalispell, where Marcia was born the next year. Don worked at various jobs to make ends meet until 1955, when he started a career with Westinghouse in Missoula as a salesman. During this time, the family adopted Paul in 1959.

The family moved back to Kalispell in 1962 and settled at Gatiss Gardens in Creston in 1969. During this time, Don was employed by Flathead Electric Co-op until his retirement in 1985. After retirement, Don became a full-time gardener, then a full-time grandfather when Paul and his family moved next door in 1990, enjoying his humor, veggies, popcorn and laughter.

Don was the chairman of the board at the Immanuel Lutheran Corporation, where he dedicated much energy to the idea and conclusion of building the Buffalo Hill Terrace. He and Jo have lived at the Terrace since 2006, where they enjoyed fun and friendship with fellow residents.

He was an avid Grizzly fan, devoted husband, loving father and exceptional grandfather. Don also enjoyed bowling, coaching Little League baseball, Lions and was a proud lifetime Lutheran with many friends at Missoula St. Paul's and Kalispell's Bethlehem churches.

Don died peacefully in his sleep surrounded by family at Immanuel Lutheran Home. He was preceded in death by all his brothers and sisters: Harold, Maynard, Marvel, Ellsworth, Buenetta and Kenny.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Jo; children Marcia and Paul, daughter-in-law Elizabeth and grandchildren Rachel, Jeremy and Leah, all of Kalispell; and countless nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be noon-5 p.m. Tuesday, July 19, at Johnson-Gloschat Funeral Home. Funeral services for Don will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 20, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church with the Rev. Mark Gravrock officiating. Burial will be at C.E. Conrad Memorial Cemetery.

Ivan Raymond Emerson

M, b. 11 August 1922, d. 25 November 2013
Life EventDateDescription
Birth11 August 1922Ivan Raymond Emerson was born on 11 August 1922 at Missouri.
Marriage1 September 1946He married Maxine Mae Mercer, daughter of Roscoe Logan Mercer and Bertha Eleanor Floyd, on 1 September 1946.
Death25 November 2013Ivan Raymond Emerson died on 25 November 2013 at Iowa at age 91 Ivan Raymond Emerson, 91, Blythedale, (formerly of Washington County, Colorado) passed from this life on Monday, November 25, 2013 at the Clearview Home, Mt. Ayr, Iowa.
He was born August 11, 1922 near Mound City, Missouri, the son of Ralph Waldo and Ethel Lee (Trimmer) Emerson. He attended school at the Benton School in the Benton Township community in rural Holt County, Missouri and also attended school in Brush, Colorado.
While in his teens, he broke horses, hired out for harvest and farm help, helped on the family farm and did any other jobs necessary to help the family income. He was always looking for some kind of agricultural job or outside job to help family and friends.
Ivan attended soil conservation training and worked for the ASCS for a number of years as a soil conservationist. Because of his love for horses, he naturally started raising Quarter Horses in the 1940's, even before he was married.
On September 1, 1946, he married Maxine Mae Mercer after a seven year engagement at the end of WWII, where he served in the Navy. They lived with her parents on the family ranch in Washington County, Colorado for a few years. When her parents moved to Brush, Colorado, they took over the ranch and farming on the home ranch. He and Maxine accomplished many improvements including planting by hand over 400 trees for a grove and windbreak.
During the 1940's and 50's, he and Maxine were involved in a group that square-danced on horses and other activities at the local county rodeo and fair.
In 1960, he and Maxine adopted Carolyn Ann. In 1961, they adopted Marvin Ivan and in 1962, they had Kenneth LeRoy. During the years in Colorado, he and Maxine helped other children (Marjorie Justice, Sheryl Jones and Alan Sisson) who remained part of their family.
While ranching in Colorado they raised cattle and horses, there, Ivan and Maxine were involved in raising, showing, and racing horses. They passed the love of horses onto their children and helped them with showing horses and cattle at the local fair and rodeo.
After a number of years in the ranching business, Ivan and Maxine decided that they needed to move to Missouri for the health of their son. In 1965, the family moved to a farm near Blythedale, MO where their children were raised to adulthood. Ivan participated in roping contests in Missouri and helped his children with 4-H at the local and State level. Ivan continued to farm and ranch until in the 1980's when he retired but continued his love of horses, anything agricultural and the great outdoors.
He raised Registered Quarter Horses, Appaloosas, and Paints during his life and always had horses until well after his retirement. He enjoyed riding horses, whether in rodeos, showing horses or helping his children with their 4-H projects. In his lifetime he also raised registered Hereford and Angus cattle, sheep and hogs.
Ivan at one time was a member of the Masonic Fraternity. He was a 32nd Degree Mason in Akron, CO and was also a member in Missouri. He also had been a member of the Order of Eastern Star.
He was always available for advice to friends and family about horses and other agricultural endeavors. Ivan was always happy to share his experience with family and friends.
Throughout the years, he had worked as a farmer, rancher and soil conservationist, as well as being a loving husband, father and grandfather.
He was preceded in death by parents; brother, Leonard; sister, Wilma Hamm; in-laws, Roscoe and Bertha Mercer and family friends, Alan Sisson and Marjorie Justice.
Survivors in addition to his wife are son, Marvin Emerson, Albia, IA; daughter, Carolyn (Marvin) Richardson, Bethany, MO; son, Kenneth Emerson, Blythedale, MO; and Sheryl (Larence) Jones, Bennett, CO; brother, Wayne Emerson, Blythedale, MO; grandchildren, Timothy Emerson, Kristopher Emerson, Denise Trollinger, Joy Cheatum and Kristina Wears; great grandchildren, Parker Emerson, Alyssa Emerson, Chandler Emerson, Zeta Emerson, Aaron Owens, Alexis Briggs, Alesha Briggs, Adam Owens, Eric Briggs, Donnie Downs, Austin Mitchell, Jonathan Mitchell, Shelby Wears and Saleen Wears; great great grandchild, Colton Briggs.
Funeral Services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 30, at the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church #2 under the direction of Roberson Funeral Home, Eagleville, MO. Burial in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Blythedale, MO.
