Life EventDateDescription
Birth10 May 1922Maxine Mae Mercer was born on 10 May 1922 at Colorado.
She was the daughter of Roscoe Logan Mercer and Bertha Eleanor Floyd.
Marriage1 September 1946Maxine Mae Mercer married Ivan Raymond Emerson on 1 September 1946.
Death17 April 2018Maxine Mae Mercer died on 17 April 2018 at Missouri at age 95 Maxine Mae (Mercer) Emerson, 95 Blythedale, Missouri passed from this life on April 17, 2018, to be with her Loving Savior.

She was born in Ft. Morgan, Colorado on May 10, 1922. Her parents, Roscoe Logan ad Bertha Eleanor (Floyd) Mercer farmed and ranched in Washington County, Colorado where Maxine grew to adulthood. On September 1, 1946 she united in marriage with the love of her life, Ivan Raymond Emerson. There were three children in their life of their own. In 1960 they adopted a daughter, Carolyn Ann and in 1961 they adopted Marvin Ivan. In 1962 they had Kenneth LeRoy and their family was complete. However, throughout the years they have helped to raise and nurture other children, namely Marjorie Justice, Sheryl Jones, and Alan Sisson while they were living in Colorado. These ties remained strong throughout the years and they remained part of the children’s circle of love for Maxine and Ivan.

Maxine loved horses and this love of horses continued throughout her life. She and her brother, Frank rode to school on horses and she has shared many of her exciting and humorous stories with her family which seemed to always involve this love for horses. Maxine continued to ride horses during her adult life, including showing registered Quarter horses that she and her husband Ivan raised. In the 1950’s she served as the Washington County, CO rodeo queen as well as participating with a group of fellow horsepersons in a square-dancing team on horses. Later on in her life she led a group of youth here in Harrison County, MO with a square dancing team on horses. She was also a member of the Cowbelles in Washington County, CO.

She attended Colorado Business School in Fort Collins, CO., which she had to leave so that she could return home to teach in a rural schoolhouse to finish out the school year for her Mother who also was a teacher. During her life she served as a teacher for a number of years in local rural schools in Washington County, CO.

During World War II she worked in Vultee Aircraft in San Diego, California and returned home to help her parents on the home ranch and to marry her fiancée of 7 years, Ivan Emerson.

Another love in her life was music. She took lessons while she was young and during the years she served as church organist, played for all kinds of events, and church pianist for a number of years at Mt. Pleasant No. 2 Baptist Church near Blythedale, MO, where she was a member and also was organist for over 20 years for Blythedale Christian Church. She passed this love of music on to her children and husband who never tired of hearing her play for them. She also liked to work in her garden and yard and always had some sort of goodies to share with the family. There was never a time that visitors and family and friends came to her house without being offered something to eat.

For many years Maxine enjoyed her association with the Organization of Eastern Star. She served a number of times as the Worthy Matron, District Organist, and the District Deputy Grand Matron. Throughout her life, Maxine worked as a housewife, farmwife, school teacher, secretary, bookkeeper, librarian, served on the hospital board, saddle club, active in Home Demonstration Club, Cub Scout leader, 4-H leader, various boards, and loving Mother and Grandmother. She was always busy and seemed to relish life with a special enjoyment of anything involving being outside and enjoying nature and everything that her loving God had created.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Ivan; her parents: Roscoe and Bertha Mercer, her son: Kenneth; her brother: Frank and loving friend of the family: Marjorie Justice.

She is survived by Marvin Emerson, Carolyn Richardson, and Sheryl and Larence Jones; Grandchildren: Denise Trollinger; Joy Cheatem; Kristina Wears; Tim Emerson and Kristopher Emerson. Her great grandchildren are Parker , Alyssa, Zeta, Chandler, Aaron, Alexis, Alesha, Adam, Eric, Donnie, Austin, Jonathan, Shelby, and Saleen. She is also survived by 13 great-great grandchildren.

During her final days on this earth she continued to take care of her family, never missing a beat even when she was ill.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 28, 2018 at Mt. Pleasant No. 2 Baptist Church, Blythedale, MO. Interment will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Blythedale, MO.
