Mrs. Ulman, 90, of St. Charles, a homemaker and formerly employed in nursing care, died Monday (Nov. 29, 2004) at Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester following a brief illness. Bertha Thenora Teigen was born Sept. 12, 1914, in Lanesboro and grew up in the Lanesboro and Preston areas. In her early 20s, she moved to Rochester, where she lived until moving to St. Charles in 1969. In August 1969, she married Edward Ulman, a carpenter, in Rochester. He died in November 2001. Mrs. Ulman was a member of St. Matthew Evangelical Lutheran Church, where she volunteered and was active in women's circle, and she was a member of the Rochester Sons of Norway. Survivors include a stepdaughter, Marcella (Wayne) Ellringer of Elba; three stepgrandchildren; and a sister, Dorothy Fortun of Litchfield, Minn. Four brothers and three sisters preceded her in death. Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until the service Friday at the church. |

They now make their home in St. Charles. They have six children, twins, Hubert, Minneapolis, and Hilbert, Rochester; Mrs. Alfred Steuernagel (Mildred), Utica, Mrs. Fred Swarts (Verda), Rochester; Elden, Searside, Harlin, Santa Rosa, and 13 grandchildren. |

Born to Mr. and Mrs. Karl Ratsch in 1882 in Germany, he immigrated with his, parents to this country that same year. He lived in Wisconsin until 1901 and then farmed in the ton, area until 1930. After retiring from farming he served as chauffeur and yardman for a physician in Rochester until 1947. He returned to the St. Charles, area from 1952 to 1962 and then lived in Rochester until his death. A member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, St. Charles, he married the former Marie Boettcher in 1904. He is survived by his wife; four sons, Hubert, Minneapolis; Hilbert, Rochester; Elden, Monterey, and Harlin, Seaside, two daughters, Mrs. Alfred' (Mildred) Steuernagel, St. Charles; and Mrs. Marshall (Verda) Gray, Rochester; a brother William, Lewiston; three, sisters, Miss Anna Ratsch, Lewiston: Mrs. Lidia Treder, Lewiston; and Mrs. Ida Wagner, St. Charles; 14 grandchildren and 22 great children. Funeral services will be Monday at 2 p.m. in St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, the Rev. Rudolph Korn officiating. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Gardens, Rochester. Friends may call at Jacobs Funeral Home, St. Charles, after 3 p.m. today and until noon Monday and at the church one hour before the service. |

Besides his wife, he is survived by his parents, Hillpoint; two sisters, Mrs. Ernest (Joyce) Bohl, Hillpoint; Miss Janice Priebe, also of Hillpoint; two brothers, Alan, Bloomington, Indiana and Francis, Hillpoint; one grandmother, Mrs. Rose Priebe of Hillpoint. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Hammer Funeral Home, Reedsburg with Rev. Ronald Schultz officiating. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Reedsburg. Friends may call beginning at 3:30 today at the funeral home. |

Funeral services were held on Monday afternoon at 1:30 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Reedsburg. Rev. Dennis Hippenbecker officated. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery.
