She was born in Swoyersville, daughter of the late Nicholas and Julia A. Michel Haradem.

A graduate of Swoyersville High School, Class of 1947, she went on to graduate from College Misericordia with a Bachelor of Science degree in general science and home economics.

She entered the Sisters of Mary as Sister Mary Jule R.S.M. teaching at many elementary and high school levels.

She received her master's degree in public health at the University of Michigan.

Dorothy continued her education and career at Good Samaritan Hospital, Cincinnati, Ohio, as a registered dietitian.

She was the director of the dietary departments at Mercy Hospital, Scranton, and Johnstown Mercy Hospital, as well as the president of the NEPA Dietetic Association.

Dorothy retired from the Pennsylvania Department of Health Northeast District as a PH nutritionist II.

As president of the Northeast Genealogical Society Inc., Shavertown, she reorganized the society and was instrumental in the reconstruction of the present library. Her reputation as a "goodwill ambassador" brought many members and visitors to the library.

Her knowledge of her ancestor's homeland, Carpatho Rus' and its history, enabled many people to find their relatives and ancestors.

Dorothy had many attributes that made her a friend to all who knew her.

She was a member of St. Therese's Church, Shavertown.

She has predeceased her was her father, Nicholas Hareadem, Feb. 15, 1932; mother, Julia A. Michel Haradem DiGiacomo, March 7, 1955; stepfather, Albert A. DiGiacomo, Nov. 24, 1975.

She is survived by her husband, Gerald W. Knafla, Shavertown; stepson, Gerald J.Knafla, Fort Mill, S.C; stepdaughter, Andrea Knafla Pituch, Dallas Township; stepgranddaughters, Lydia, Amanda, and Lauren; step-great- granddaughter, Jordyn; several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles including, Bernard Michael, Daniel and Elizabeth Haradem, Ann Ondish Michael, Dorothy Chacko Michael, Helen Phillips Michael, Theresa Phillips, Helen DiGiacomo Hudock Lezoli, Stephen and Mary DiGiacomo, Raymond DiGiacomo and Helen Marcevich James.

The funeral will be held Thursday at 9:30 from Harold C Snowdon Funeral Home, 140 N. Main St., Shavertown, with a Celebration of Life Mass at 10 in St. Therese's Church, Pioneer Avenue, Shavertown.

Entombment will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Carverton.

Friends may call Wednesday, 4 to 7 p.m., at the funeral home.

She was married at Zion Lutheran Church - Turtle Lake on October 12, 1939, to Alfred Bussewitz who preceded her in death on February 7, 1989. She was an active church member at Zion Lutheran Church in Turtle Lake, and St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Cumberland.

Pearl was a woman of many skills and talents. Her jobs ranged from farmer's wife, to produce manager at Red and White in Turtle Lake, to becoming the proud owner and operator of the Dairy Queen in Cumberland for 7 years. Her time spent at the Senior Center was filled with cribbage and 500. She also served on the Board of Directors at the Senior Center.

She is survived by 2 sons, Morris (Priscilla) Bussewitz of Cumberland, and Gene (Connie) Bussewitz of Cumberland; 13 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild born in December; many nieces, nephews, and other family and friends. She was preceded in death by 1 son, John Bussewitz, 1 daughter, Beverlee (Roger) Owens, 2 sisters, Elna (Clifford ) Gamache, and Esther (Alois) Quade; and brother, Harold (Ona) Dunemann.

Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery, Cumberland, with lunch to follow. Pallbearers are Pearl's seven grandsons: Jeffery Owens, Michael Bussewitz, Kurt Bussewitz, Jonathon Bussewitz, Brandon Bussewitz, Zachary Bussewitz, and Thor Bussewitz.

The Amery, Wis., native had returned to Crescent City seven years ago, coming from Citrus County, Fla. He was Community President for Capital City Banks, Palatka, Fla., and was a member of Hope Lutheran Church, Satsuma.

A leader in the community, he was a member of the Rotary Club of Palatka and served on the board of directors for several local organizations, including the Putnam Behavioral Healthcare, Putnam County YMCA, United Way of Putnam County and Sun Kidz Early Learning Coalition of Putnam County.

He was an avid fan of NASCAR, the Green Bay Packers, Florida Gators and Atlanta Braves. He loved hunting and the great outdoors.

Surviving are his wife, Jeannie; a son, Todd (Mary) of Centennial, Colo; his parents, Fred and Viola of Crescent City; sisters, Judy (Bob) McIntosh of Aurora, Colo., and Jill (Bob) Dean of Pine, Colo; a grandson, Chad Fredrick; a granddaughter, Katie Fredrick; nieces, Kim Fredrick and Tiffany Meach; nephews, Jason and Matt McIntosh and Zach and Dusty Dean; along with faithful canine companions, Moon and Skyy.

His brother, Loren, preceded him in death.

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 5, from Hope Lutheran Church, Satsuma, Rev. Jake Brey officiating, with burial at Eden Cemetery, Crescent City.

The board of directors of Capital City Bank will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. Wednesday from Johnson-Overturf Funeral Home, Palatka. In celebration of Larry's life, a memorial video will be show during calling hours.

He attended Turtle Lake Schools and graduated from high school in 1965, attended University of Wisconsin Eau Claire and graduated with a B.S. in Accounting in 1969. In January 1969 he enlisted in the Peace Corp. In April 1970 he was inducted into the military and served in the US Army and was honorably discharged in October of 1971. Gene began his career in Minneapolis for a non-profit and in 1975 he joined Verizon/GTE which began his 27-year telecommunications accounting career. After 3 years of early retirement, he went back to work for Chibardun/Mosaic where he stayed for 10 more years. He officially retired to Cumberland, WI where he enjoyed a life of traveling, playing golf, pontooning, gardening, and spending time with his family. Church was always at the forefront, and according to Gene, “Life is busy, life is certainly hectic, but ‘too busy’ for God has not been an option for my callings. Volunteering and serving where I am qualified makes me feel good, keeps me active, and allows me to be at peace with the One”.

Survived by wife: of 39 years, Connie (Chubb) Bussewitz; children: Paige (Mark Kirkeby) Johnson of Minneapolis, MN; Zach Bussewitz of Estes Park, CO; Thor Bussewitz of Madison, WI; grandchildren: Orion Peytchev-Bussewitz; Kaiya Peytcheva-Bussewitz; Roscoe Colt; siblings: Morris (Percy) Bussewitz; sister-in-law: Diane Bussewitz; numerous nieces, nephews and good friends.

Preceded in death by parents: Alfred and Pearl (Dunemann) Bussewitz; siblings, Bev (Max) Owens, John Bussewitz

Visitation held at the Skinner Funeral Home, 1245 1st Avenue, Cumberland, WI on September 29, 2022 from 4-7pm

Memorial Service held at First Lutheran Church, 1180 8th Avenue, Cumberland WI on September 30, 2022 at 11am with luncheon to follow. Visitation an hour before service. Gene’s memorial service will be live streamed via the First Lutheran Church Facebook page.

Internment will be held at a later date at Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial, N4063 Veterans Way, Spooner, WI.

"Max" Owens, 72 of Cumberland, Wisconsin passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, July 31, 2011 at his home. He was born May 21, 1939, in Cumberland, Wi to Lloyd and Norma (Zimbeck) Owens, grew up in the Cumberland area and graduated from Cumberland High Schoolin 1957. Max attended UW-Superior for two years, then worked for several years, was married to Beverlee Bussewitz on August 12, 1961, was drafted into the US Army that same year and spent two years as an MP, stationed in Colorado Springs. Upon returning, they lived in the Twin Cities, Max briefly worked for Gopher News and then worked construction. In 1968, they moved to Cumberland and he purchased a cattle trucking business, and farmed east of Cumberland until 1973 when he bought the Dairy Queen, which he ran until 1981. Max went back to what he loved doing most, farming. When Beverlee became ill, Max moved back to town to began working as a mail carrier in Cumberland and surrounding area. Beverlee preceded him in death on December 17 1989. He met and later married Lois Paulson Church in Barron, Wi. on April 6, 1991. Max retired in 2002. After his retirement, he worked several odd jobs. He and Lois enjoyed many wonderful years together traveling and spending time at their home in Texas as well as enjoying their kids and grandkids busy and exciting lives. Max was an avid sports fan, who cheered on the Twins, Vikings and his grandchildrens' sports teams. Max loved visiting with friends, old and new alike, tellling jokes, pulling pranks and making people smile.

He is survived by wife, Lois of Cumberland; 1 son, Jeff Owens (Ade Nelson) of Coon Rapids, MN; 2 daughters, Sandee (Scott) Buergi of Rice Lake and Kari Owens of Cumberland; 3 grandchildren, Alicia and Drew Buergi and Jessica Owens; 4 step children, Mari Chuirch, Jeff (Billie) Church, Brad Chruch and Chris (Mary Church; 11 step grandchildren, Tyler, Bryan, Jon, Ema, Tara, Kora, Ryan, Sidney, Jerry, Janessa and Jenniah (Adam): 4 Step great grandchildren; his father, Lloyd Owens of Comstock; 1 brother Jon (Ann) Owens of Comstock; 1 sister, Rita Franz of Cumberland and many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. Max was also preceded in death by his mother, Norma Owens, 1 sister, JoAnne robertson and daughter in law Cindy Owens.

Memorial service will be held at 11 AM Thursday, August 4, 2022 at First Lutheran Church, Cumberland, Wi with Rev Timothy Schmidt officiating. Burial of cremains will be in Lakeside cemetery. Honary pallbears are Thor Haug, Floyd Pajak, Donald Zager, Alicia buergi, Drew Bueergi, Jessica Owens and Tom Bents. Military honors were accorded by Anderson Thomson post #98 american Legion. cumberland and the Wisconsin State Honors Team. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 pm on Wednesday at the Skinner Funeral Home in Cumberland and for one hour prior to services on Thursday at the church.
