Mr. Mauldin was born April 23, 1944 in Stanly County. He was a son of the late James Thomas and Pauline Bailey Mauldin.

He was a U.S. Navy Veteran and a retiree of Collins and Aikman in Norwood.

He is survived by his wife, Elaine Livingston Mauldin of the home; one daughter, Janet Mauldin Mabry and Terry Coone of Oakboro; two grandchildren, Carrie Mabry Taylor and Matt and David Mabry, all of Norwood; one great-granddaughter, Brooklie Rose Taylor; one brother, James Leon Mauldin of Albemarle; four sisters, Sylvia Kohler of Suttons Bay, Mich., Althea Wilson of Landrum, S.C., Joyce Vereen of Tryon, N.C., and Tracy Wieden of Lawrence, Kans.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Bill Mauldin.

In August of 1956 she was featured in the "Ripley's Believe It or Not" comic strip.

The comic stated “Mrs. Jane Swaringen of Albemarle, N.C. and her father have between them lived during the administration of every President of the U.S.! The father - Joshua Hudson – born 1796 when Washington was President – lived to the age of 99 and had 23 children. Mrs. Swaringen was born in 1874 – when her father was 78 years old.”
At the time this was in the newspapers, in just two generations they had lived through the administrations of the first 34 presidents. When Mrs. Swaringen passed away in 1967, this unusual feat had been extended through Lyndon Johnson the 36th President!
