He was born May 24, 1924 in New Castle, the son of Jasper H. and Berniece (Davis) Wooten.
A 1942 graduate of New Castle High School, George farmed for many years in Dudley Twp. and then owned and operated a Chevron Filling Station in Ormond Beach, FL for several years. George was a past Exalted Ruler of Elks Lodge in New Castle and a past member of Moose and Eagles Lodges. He was also a member of New Lisbon Lions Club. He had served on the Sheriff department's horse patrol. He enjoyed horses, traveling and especially enjoyed spending time at Luellen Brothers Inc. in New Lisbon.
Survivors include his wife, Jeanette Wooten of New Castle; two daughters: Lizabeth (John) Catt of New Castle and JoEllen (Robert) Miller of Lafayette; sister, Sarah Jane Wisehart of TX; a very special niece, Saundra Diane Kellam of GA; a nephew, Danny Wisehart; grandchildren: Adrianne (Chris) Woolard of New Castle, Cindi (Bryan) Rottinghaus of New Castle, Stacie Jo Miller of Findlay, OH, Rebecca Lynn Miller of Lafayette, Robert Wayne Miller III and Clayton Ray Miller both of VA, JoDee (David) Schenck, Stephen Wooten and Scott (Amber) Wooten all of Indianapolis; a step daughter, Ann Miller; three step granddaughters: Stacey Jackson, Lindsey Masterson and Tracey Miller; several great grandchildren; and two step great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Wanda J. Wooten; son, Jan H. Wooten; granddaughter, Jennifer Wooten; and sister, Winifred Kellam.
Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at Hinsey Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Roby Wood officiating and the Elks Lodge providing a memorial service. Friends may call from 12-2 p.m. prior to the service Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in South Mound Cemetery-West Lawn Addition.

Rex grew up in Alamota KS and graduated from Lane County High School in 1957. In the fall of 1957, Rex enlisted in the United States Navy as a radio technician for a four-year term. Having completed his enlistment, he returned to Dighton, Kansas, where he married his best friend's sister, Lois Darlene (Shapland) on June 7, 1964. The two of them went to Fort Hays State University where Rex graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics and Physics. They then moved to California so Rex could work for the Hughes Aircraft Company. When the company downsized, the family moved first back to Dighton, then to Garden City where he found work at Sunflower Electric for the next fifteen years. Rex's second career for the next fifteen years consisted of being the maintenance supervisor for U.S.D. 457, a position from which he retired. Since 1975, Rex and his family have been active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Garden City Ward.

Rex is survived by his wife, Lois; his sister, Rita & Larry Weber of Colby, Kansas; his sons, Steven & Amy of Vernal Utah, Daniel & Afton of Bowling Green Kentucky, Michael of Garden City Kansas, and James of Satanta Kansas; and his grandchildren, Aiden, Evan, and Aliyah.

Funeral services will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 619 Mary Street, Garden City, Friday, June 7, 2019, At 10:00 am. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City with military rites conducted by the United States Navy Honor Guard. A viewing will be at 9:00 am on Friday at the church.
