Death6 February 2025Deacon Roger N. Klaas died on 6 February 2025 at age 89 Deacon Roger N. Klaas, 89, of Wadsworth, Ohio went into the arms of Jesus on Thursday, February 6, 2025. He was born September 22, 1935, in North Buena Vista, Iowa, to the late Arnold and Maralda ( Brimeyer) Klaas and grew up on the family farm. He attended Holy Cross High School where he met the love of his life Helen.
Roger proudly served our country in the United States Army in Korea. After serving in the Army, he attended the University of Iowa earning his degree in Mechanical Engineering and then went on to work for Bridgestone/Firestone Tire Co. and retired after 35 years of dedicated service.
Roger was actively involved at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Wadsworth and on May 24, 1997, was ordained as a Deacon for the Cleveland Diocese.
Roger's legacy can be seen through his many church ministries with a special place in his heart for the students, teachers and staff at Sacred Heart School, nursing home residents, and ministering at the Medina County Jail.
In addition to his ministries, he enjoyed his favorite sports teams, the Indians, Browns, Cavaliers and the Iowa Hawkeyes.
He was preceded in death by his granddaughter Courtney and sister Helen Weiner.
Roger is survived by Helen, his best friend and wife for 68 years, and his children in whom his spirit can be found; Kim (Scott) Feltner of, WI, Steve (Kris) Klaas, of SC and his special joy in his grandchildren Michael, Jeffrey (Lauren), Brittney Mark (Katie), Anne and Matthew, along with his extended family in Iowa.
His legacy will live on his footprints found in the hearts of all he touched.
The family will receive friends on Friday, February 14, 2025, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 272 Board St., Wadsworth, Ohio starting with a Vesper Service that will begin at 3:00PM and the public can pay their respect until 9:00PM.
A Celebration of Life Mass will be conducted at 11:00am on Saturday, February 15, 2025, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Interment with Military Honors will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Wadsworth.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 18, at Holy Ghost Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, May 17, at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St., where there will be a parish scripture wake service at 5:30 p.m.

She was born on July 24, 1930, in North Buena Vista, Iowa, daughter of Arnold and Maralda (Brimeyer) Klaas. She married Ronald Weiner on June 30, 1951, in North Buena Vista; he preceded her in death on Feb. 2, 1992.

She later married Thomas "Tom" Manternach on March 17, 1994, at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, Dubuque.

Helen owned and operated the Walnut Beer Store and Tap for 33 years. She tirelessly worked for Dubuqueland Pheasants Forever, Ducks Unlimited and the Isaac Walton League, and she loved every minute of it.

She loved going to church, her rosary and John Paul II. She also loved Loras College and all the kids she "mothered" through their college years.

Helen traveled across America, including Alaska, and also traveled to Europe, Mexico and Guam. She loved to entertain for her family and friends and made the best potato salad ever. She also loved her cat and dog, Princess and Tinker. Helen was a take-charge type of lady who loved to plan and always finished every project perfectly. She loved nature's splendor and had the pictures to prove it. She was a hard worker who never complained or said an unkind word to anyone. She will be remembered for her loving and generous nature.

Surviving are her husband, Tom Manternach, of Dubuque; two daughters, Karen Weiner, of Dubuque, and Kathy Macy, of San Antonio; a son, Craig J. (Julie) Weiner, of Dubuque; four grandchildren, Corey, of Wilmington, Ohio, Matthew and Hayley Weiner and Sara Merz, all of Dubuque; great-grandchildren, Makenzy, Jayden and Gage; stepchildren, Wayne (Jill) Manternach, Gaylen (Ruth) Manternach, Craig (Cindy) Manternach, Dale Manternach and Mary Ann (Ed) Petsche; several stepgrandchildren; nieces and nephews; and her "sisters," Norma Murray and Adele (Heer) Houselog.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Kent, Washington - Steve was married to the love of his life, Roberta Soran, for over 40 years. Whenever they could, they hit the road searching for wildlife, wildflowers, gemstones, comets, waterfalls and other beauties in nature. He excelled at working with his hands and won awards as a gardener for his giant pumpkins. He worked as a homebuilder and handyman and was always on the lookout for a clever new way to solve a problem.
Steve loved his family very much, and always had a prank, joke or an adventure ready to share with his nieces, nephews, children, and grandchildren. Steve is survived by his children Eric Knaphus-Soran and Kelly Soran and his granddaughters Annika and Cleo Knaphus-Soran.
A family service for Steve will be held at Dacca Barn in Fife on December 21st.

Daniel was born on May 1, 1951, in Dubuque, son of Lloyd and Mildred (Schiel) Pluemer. He was a graduate of Dubuque Senior High School, Class of 1969.

He married Sharon R. Kamentz on May 25, 1974, at St. Mary's Church.

He was formerly employed at the Dubuque Packing Co., until it closed and was lastly employed as a lab technician at Rite Hite until his retirement in 2010.

Dan was an avid hunter, especially for deer and turkey, and loved spending time with Don, Randy, Bob and the "hunting gang." He enjoyed bowling, softball and fishing in his younger days and was a NASCAR fan. Dan was very generous with his time and money. He was one of the primary caregivers to his mother-in-law, Dorothy. His final act of kindness was to be an Iowa Organ Donor. Dan loved his "granddog" Oliver, and his dogs, Buck and Abby. Dan especially enjoyed photography trips with his son, Jeff. His greatest joy was to be with his wife and children.

Surviving are his wife, Sharon R. Pluemer; children, Jeffrey L. Pluemer, of Dubuque, and Julie A. (Nick Pillard) Pluemer, of Davenport, Iowa; a sister, Lynn A. (Garry) Pape, of Rickardsville, Iowa; a brother, Michael J. (Linda) Pluemer, of Asbury, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Sheila M. Pluemer, of Dubuque; mother-in-law, Dorothy Kamentz, of Dubuque; a brother-in-law, Mike (Mary Ann) Kamentz, of West Des Moines; three sisters-in-law, Teresa (Tim) LoBianco, of Dubuque, Elessa (Tom) Vath, of Grimes, Iowa, and Vickie (David) Jackson, of Blaine, Minn; and aunts, an uncle, nieces and a nephew.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Patricia in infancy; and two brothers, Gary (Tina) Pluemer and Greg Pluemer.
