Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery in Platteville. Friends may call from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville, where there will be a rosary at 3:30 PM. Friends may also call from 9:30 AM until 10:15 AM on Wednesday at the church. Memorials may be made to the Velma R. Melssen Memorial Fund.

Velma was born on March 4, 1935, the daughter of John and Rose Mae (Wunderlin) Reuter. She married Leonard Melssen on September 9, 1961 at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Dickeyville, WI. Velma was a member of the St. Mary’s Council of Catholic Women and St. Mary’s Parish. Velma and Leonard farmed for the past 48 years. Her family was very important to her and she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved to play cards, especially Euchre and 500 Rummy and watching Wheel of Fortune and the Green Bay Packers. Velma was a horseshoe player. She loved to bake and was a master of the home-cooked meal. Every meal was followed with pie, angel food cake or anything sweet. Velma’s main goal in life was being a wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

Velma was survived by her husband of 61 years Leonard, and children Matilda “Tilly” (Tim) Weigel, Joe (Karla) Melssen, Jane (Jerry) Donar, Gail (Kris) Krause, Lenny Melssen and Ken (Michelle) Melssen, 10 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren, sisters, Dorothy Klein and Anna (Gene) Stelpflug, brother, John (Rose Marie) Reuter, brothers and sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Matilda Reuter, Rosemary Reuter, Loretta (Emil) Miesen and Wilma (Joe) Fuerstenberg, brothers Clinton and Clifford (Loretta) Reuter and brothers-in-law Herbert Klein and Charles Melssen.

Anna was born on August 16, 1937, in Paris Township, Wisconsin, the daughter of John and Rose (Wunderlin) Reuter. She was united in marriage to Gene Stelpflug on April 1, 1967, at Holy Ghost Church in Dickeyville.

Anna worked at Heartland Nursing Home for 17 years. She enjoyed camping and baking sugar cookies for her family. She was a fan of the Green Bay Packers and Chicago Cubs. Above all, Anna loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Anna is survived by her husband, Gene Stelpflug, Dickeyville; two children, Tim (Janet) Stelpflug, Waunakee, WI, and Penney (Tim) Hilkin, Dickeyville; one sister, Dorothy Klein; one brother, John (Rose Marie) Reuter; and three grandchildren, Michael Stelpflug, Sara Stelpflug and Hannah Hilkin.

She was preceded in death by her parents; five sisters, Mathilda Reuter, Rosemary Reuter, Loretta (Emil) Miesen, Wilma (Joe) Fuerstenberg and Velma Melssen; two brothers, Clinton Reuter and Clifford (Loretta) Reuter; and a grandson, Jackson Hilkin.

Survivors include her daughter, Stacey Hamilton; grandson, Jesse Hamilton; her siblings: Ted (Diane) Bode, Jerry (Diane) Bode, Norma (Richard) Kammerud, Mark Bode, and Vicki (Tim) Timmerman; three brothers-in-law; her beloved dog, Shade; many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Rosie was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Travis Hamilton; her brother, Ron Bode, and her husband, Robert on January 17, 2020.
Due to the COVID-19 crisis, a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Tennyson will be held at a later date, which will be published. Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory in Potosi is entrusted with her care.

He enjoyed camping, fishing, woodworking and crafts with Rozanne, his Harley, and his beloved dog, Shade. Robert was a member of the C.C. Riders in Madison and the founding charter member of the Matadors in Potosi.
Survivors include his loving wife, Rozanne; daughter, Stacey Hamilton; grandson, Jesse Hamilton; three brothers; nieces, nephews, and members of the Bode family.
In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, January 22, 2020, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Tennyson with Father Richard Leffler officiating. Burial will be at a later date. Family and friends may call on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the church.
