Death | 24 November 2008 | Steven Hilary Tranel died on 24 November 2008 at age 46 Steven H. Tranel, 46, of 2275 Louisburg Road, Cuba City, died Monday evening, Nov. 24, 2008, after a miraculous seven-year dance with cancer. Though he lost the battle, he certainly won the war. He died in prayer, surrounded by God and his family, just as he wished. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 28, at St. Joseph's Sinsinawa, 780 County Highway Z, Hazel Green, with his nephew, the Rev. Bart Timmerman, officiating. The Rev. Cy Weisensel, other concelebrating priests, and his brother, Deacon Dr. Larry Tranel also will be assisting. Burial will be in St. Joseph's cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 27, at Miller Funeral Home, 1185 Route 35 North, East Dubuque, Ill., where a family rosary will be prayed at 2 p.m. He was born on July 27, 1962, in Dubuque, son of Oswin and Mary Agnes (Lange) Tranel. Before his illness, he had a passion for youth sports and religion. He challenged himself to combine the two. He was very active in his church at St. Joseph's in Sinsinawa, because he felt very strongly that this held the keys to a promising future for himself, his family, and for many parishioners to follow. He was a loving and adored husband, father, brother and friend. Steve was particularly moved by Philippians 4:13, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." He drew on this verse for much strength throughout his battle. He had a passion for the 4 F's of life -- Faith, Family, Friends, and Farming -- and in that order. He was a man that was filled with more faith than most can imagine. Throughout his seven years of earthly suffering, he never complained, never said that he wasn't feeling well, and never, not even for a single moment, doubted the faith or love of his Creator. Friends on a Journey was one of his favorite phrases. Friends who helped him on his journey include his wife of 24 years, Joan; his children, Travis (Stephanie), of Cuba City, Andrew, Kate and Molly, all at home; his father, Oswin Tranel, of Cuba City; his brothers and sisters, Roseann (David) Wiederholt, Karen (Dan) Timmerman, Mary Lou Dalsing and Larry (Tina) Tranel, all of Kieler, Rita (Don) Fluhr, of East Dubuque, Judy (Owen) Adrian, of Cassville, and John (Connie) Tranel, Tom (Lin) Tranel, Dan (Jennifer) Tranel and Joann (Tony) Jansen, all of Cuba City; his in-laws include his mother-in-law, Delores Kauffmann, Rosie (Jim) Bechen and Susan (Marty) Fleege, all of Cuba City, Judy (John) Piddington, of Hazel Green, Diane (Denny) Birkel, of Sherrill, Iowa, and Betty (Gary) Noel, of Jefferson City, Tenn; he was expecting his first grandchild in March. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Agnes Tranel; and his father-in-law, Philip Kauffmann. |

Kevin, son of Thomas and Shari (Sprecher) Schell was born August 28, 1964 in Baraboo. He was a graduate of Baraboo High School, Class of ’82 where he was involved in many sports. He was proud to have gone to state for wrestling his senior year, unfortunately he lost after the first round. After high school, he briefly attended UW-LaCrosse. On August 6, 1988 he was united in marriage to Debra Dregne at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Reedsburg. In 1992 they proudly welcomed son, Casey. Kevin worked for Carpenter Glass. He then started working for Deppe Enterprise in 1991 where he later became general manager and wore many hats. He dedicated 33 years of service to the company. Kevin won many awards and championships in garden tractor pulling; he was proud to be able to build a tractor for his son which he won many awards with. He was on the board for Wisconsin Garden Tractor Pullers, Inc. He enjoyed volunteering in various capacities with many tractor pulling organizations and working with the Deppe Pulling Team which eventually made national success. In 2010 he co-founded SJS (Spencer-Johnson-Schell) Cancer Support Team that raises funds to support local community members affected by cancer.
