Death13 February 1945Carl Alfred Paulson died on 13 February 1945 at Charles Mix, South Dakota, at age 69 Carl A. Paulson, elderly farmer near Geddes, died at 12:00 o'clock noon, Tuesday Feb. 13, 1945 at the age of 69 years and four months. He never was physically strong, but since June 1944 he has suffered with heart trouble and uremic poisoning. Last Sunday he was taken to the hospital at Geddes where he was at the time he peacefully slept away. Mr. Paulson was born in Christiana, Norway Oct. 17. 1875. At the age of nine he came to America with his parents who settled at Hudson, S Dak. He attended the local schools of the community. Having been baptized in a Lutheran church of Norway, he was confirmed at the age of 16 in the Trinity Lutheran church of Hudson, S. Dak. When he was 22 years of age he homesteaded on a farm near Geddes where he made his home until his death. In 1907 he was married to Hannah Larson of Lake Andes. Both Mr. and Mrs. Paulson have been active members in church, school and public affairs. They have been long time members of the West Lake Andes Lutheran church. Children born to this union are: Mrs. Oscar Gibson of Hudson, S. Dak; Mrs. Clifford Faughender of Geddes and Mrs. Charley Jan of Sioux Falls. A son and daughter preceded him in death. The grandchildren are Donald and Ronald Jan and Nila Gibson. Two brothers, three sisters, and one half sister preceded him in death. The three sisters who survive are: Mrs. Paluda Larson of Luverne, Minn; Mrs. John Jensen of Lake Andes, and Mrs. Edd Gunderson of Geddes. Funeral services were held from the home at 1:00 P M Friday Feb. 16 and at the Community church in Geddes at 2 P M. Rev. Virgil Bjerke officiating. The pallbearers were: Robert Odeen, Phil Graham, Lindhart Mikkelsen, Nels Christensen, Tom Thompson and Knute Langeland. Interment was in Pleasant Lawn cemetery. Other relatives from out of town who attended the funeral were Mrs. Paluda Larson, Luverne, Minn. Raymond and Bryant Larson and Mrs. Mary Larson of Harrison Neb. Mr. and Mrs. Chris Larson and Gladys and Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Biddle and Verla all of Alcester and Edwin Gunderson of Minneapolis.

Services were held in the Peet Chapel in Lusk with the Rev. James Keith of the Harrison Methodist Church officiating. Burial was in the Lusk Cemetery. Mrs. William Coffee of Harrison sang, "Beyond the Sunset" and "Ivory Palaces". Mrs. Harry Serres was the organist.

Pallbearers were: Leonard Prosser, John Prosser, Lorenzo McCoy, Marian McCoy, LeRoy McCoy, and Conrad McCoy.

She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Alice Larsen of Harrison, and Mrs. Marian Braley of Sundance; four step-daughters, Mrs. Maxine Fisher of Fort Laramie, Mrs. Vivian Parsons of Harrison, Miss Esther Ellicott of Washington, D.C., and Mrs. Norma Robinson of Albuquerque, NM; and five grandchildren, Mrs. Dixie Oats of Sheridan, Rex Gray of Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo., Cynthia Parsons of Harrison, Luanna and Gary Fisher of Fort Laramie.

Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Marian McCoy, her daughter, Leona Gray, three brothers Irvin, Guy, and Barney McCoy, two sisters, Lula Wilson and Bertha Prosser, one granddaughter and one stepson died previously.

Out-of-town relatives present were: Mrs. Leona Fry, Conrad McCoy, Stella Crouch, all of Torrington, Mr. and Mrs. Herchel Smith, Mrs. Hope Reece, Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy McCoy, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Prosser, John Prosser, Mrs. Ellen Blackwell and Roxann Lorenzo McCoy, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Hamaker, Bruce Rouse, Mr. and Mrs. Marian McCoy, all of Crawford, and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Hamaker of Harrison.

Mrs. Ellicott was born September 18, 1884 in Kearney, Nebr. In February she married Ray Hamaker and they lived in Sioux County four years and near Redbird four years. In 1918, shortly after moving to Van Tassell, Mr. Hamaker died. In December 1921 she married Earle Ellicott. He died in May 1938. After his death, Mrs. Ellicott ran the Log Cabin Motel at Riverton for several years. Later she moved to Lusk, where she has resided the last twenty years.
