On June 2, 1959, she was united in marriage to Thomas Adams at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Platteville. Ruth worked for a time as a CNA and also at the One-Hour Drycleaners in Platteville, but spent many years as a stay-at-home mom raising her four boys. She and Tom renovated many houses, bringing their family to several communities in the area over the course of their lives, but Platteville was always the place Ruth truly felt at home. She enjoyed restoring antiques, fishing on the Mississippi with Tom, and trips to the boat in Dubuque to try her luck at the slots.

Ruth is survived by her four sons: Terry, Kevin and Ricky Adams, Platteville, WI and Scott (Krista) Adams, Poynette, WI; brother Ron (Nancy) Van Natta; twelve grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents Leonard and Estelle, an infant brother Richard Van Natta, her husband Thomas Adams, sister Joan Hamill, grandson Cory Adams and many, many treasured pets.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, February 21, 2023 at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville. Father John Blewett will officiate. Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery, Platteville. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until the time of the services at the funeral home.

Shirley was born on August 22, 1940, in Hazel Green, Wisconsin, the daughter of Anton and Imelda (Kuhl) Riek. She graduated from Hazel Green High School and attended cosmetology school at the Fischer Building. Shirley was united in marriage to Phillip R. Symons on June 27, 1959, at St. Francis de Sales Church, Hazel Green. He preceded her in death on October 21, 2009.

Shirley worked as a beautician for 44 years, owning her own business, Country Blue Boutique, for 15 years. She was a member of the Women’s Club of Hazel Green, the St. Francis de Sales Altar Society and was a hospice volunteer. Shirley especially enjoyed antiques and auctions. Most importantly, her children and grandchildren were the sunshine of her life.

Shirley is survived by her children, Julie Symons, Cape Coral, FL, and Stephen (Diana) Symons, Hazel Green; devoted friend and companion, Richard “Dick” Bodell, Hazel Green; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Laurie Runde; and a sister, Mary “Midge” Stertle.

She enjoyed cooking, card games, and playing dice games. She loved driving around to visit family and friends, looking for antiques, which can be found in every corner of her house. Mary cherished her time spent with her family and grandkids. She will be remembered as a huge-hearted person who was always willing to help anyone that crossed her path.
She is survived by her husband, Ronald, two children, Randall (Melissa) and Leanne (Rick) Cornelius, four grandchildren, Cole, Camden, Cyler, and Andrew, and one sister, Shirley Ann Symons, of Hazel Green. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Steve was born on August 17, 1935, in Menominee, Illinois, the son of Louis and Alverna (Kuhl) Kieffer. He served during the Korean Conflict in the U.S. Marines from 1952 to 1955. Steve was united in marriage to Carol Schuller on December 22, 1955, at St. Mary’s Church in Galena.

He was a machinist at John Deere Dubuque Works, retiring after 31 years of service. Following his retirement, he enjoyed working at Eagle Ridge Golf Course for 17 years. Steve was a member of UAW Local #94, Holy Trinity Parish, the Scales Mound Fire Department, the Scales Mound Lions Club, VFW Post #2665 and American Legion Post #193 of Galena. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting, euchre, telling jokes, baking cookies and was a fan of the Chicago Bears. Steve had a great love for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Surviving is his wife, Carol; four children, Pam (Steve) Koester, Patti (Dave) Glasgow, Paula (Al) Busch and Todd (Vickie) Kieffer, all of Scales Mound; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and his siblings, Anna Mae Edmonds and Pete (Janet) Kieffer, both of Galena, and Jane (Larry) Daniels, of Henderson, Kentucky.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Tracy Glasgow; and siblings, Lois Donatsch, Rosie Gaine, Pat, Dan, Dave and Louie Kieffer.

Anna Mae enjoyed working in her large garden on Rocky Hill, sewing and mending for her family, baking bread and cookies, bowling, tending to her rose bushes and a good game of euchre.

She is survived by her children Dave, Dennis (Joyce), Richard “Dick”, Greg (Clarene), Mark, Tim, Becky (Tom) Ruchti, Scott (Laura), and Jeff, 15 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren and a daughter-in-law, Diane Edmonds, one brother, Pete (Janet) Kieffer, one sister Jane (Larry) Daniels and a sister-in-law, Carol Kieffer and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son, Charles “Chuck” Edmonds, daughter-in-law Tina Edmonds, grandson Matthew Edmonds, five brothers, Steve, Pat, Dan, Dave, and Louie Kieffer and two sisters, Lois Donatsch and Rosie Gaine.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Club, Maquoketa, for many years.

Survivors include two daughters, Barbara (Paul) Trenkamp of Preston and Brenda Walker of Boston; three sons, Bob (Margie) Donatsch and Bryan Donatsch, both of Maquoketa, and Brent (Neva) Donatsch of Cedar Rapids; five grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; one great-grandchild; 13 stepgreat-grandchildren; two sisters, Anna Mae Edmonds of Galena and Jane (Larry) Daniels of Henderson, Ky; and three brothers, Steve (Carol) Kieffer of Scales Mound, Ill., Dave (Rose Ellen) Kieffer and Pete (Janet) Kieffer, both of Galena.
