He was married 60 years to Margaret Lutgring of Tell City, Indiana and they had four sons in Washington DC, [names omitted]. He graduated the University of Idaho just before WW II and joined the Federal Bureau of Investigation. During his 34 years with the FBI he was the principal firearms examiner for many crimes including the assassination of John F Kennedy, Robert F Kennedy and Martin Luther King. He testified at length during the Warren Commission hearings.

After leaving the Bureau he continued to perform firearms analyses for the Northern Virginia Crime Lab and was a regular consultant for Sturm-Ruger Firearms, Inc.

He was an outdoor enthusiast who loved fishing, hunting and camping. He is survived by three sons, seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, all of whom dearly loved him.

Visitation took place on June 26 at Murphy Funeral Home, Falls Church, VA. Funeral service followed. Graveside service was on June 27 at Resurrection Cemetery, Clinton, MD.

She is survived by her husband Terry Neilson, two Son's Glen Neilson and Rhonda of Waverly, Kansas, Randy Neilson and Laura of Aurora, Colorado, one granddaughter, Amanda and Kyle House, three great grandchildren Eli, Asher, and Ezekiel House of Gardner Kansas. Also her brother's wife, Bertha of Seminary, Mississippi. Five Step-son's, Johnathan, Allan, Dallas, Nathaniel, Hayden, Three Step-granddaughter's Veronica, Timberly, Ashlee Eight Step-grandkids Tylor, Tassin, Tucker , Amaya, Emma, Chandler, Makayla, Elizabeth, and Great Great grandchildren. Cousin's and Nephew's. Gaylene was married to her husband for 62 years being married in the Bucyrus United Methodist Church on October 18th, 1959, Gaylene enjoyed many crafts, including making quilts and table runners, enjoyed Fishing and Trips to the Rocky Mountains to the Ozark Mountains, Gaylene was the 11th Generation of the Roberts Family Tree dating back to 1670.
