He was born in Austin, MN on October 18, 1955 to Joseph and Helen (Bauer) Schmitz. He graduated from Adams High School in 1973 and married Renee Hemingway at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Adams on October 27, 1978, they later divorced.

Throughout his life he worked as an electrician at Schmitz Electric and owned his own company Schmitz and Daughters. He was very active in the community serving on the Adams Fire Department for 30 years; 10 years as Chief and was in his second term on the Adams City Council. In his spare time Pete liked to ride his Harley and spend time with his beloved daughters and grandkids.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Michael Schmitz and niece, Michelle (Schmitz) Meyer.

He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law: Theresa (David) Freese, Rochester, MN, Kathy Jo (Chris) Kiefer, Stewartville, MN, Leslie (Josh) Taylor, Osage, IA, and Joni (Winston) Smith, Algona, IA; grandchildren: Kyle, Allicia, Ava, Gavin, Owen, Weston, Brynley, Beau, Vince, Varity, Houston and Lucy; siblings: Patrick (Peg) Schmitz, Austin, MN; Louise (Norman, Sr) Eastman, McIntyre, IA; sister-in-law: Mary Schmitz; many beloved nieces and nephews, and his dog Mia.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, January 3rd at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Adams with Father Swaminatha Pothireddy and Father Don Schmitz officiating. Interment will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Adams Funeral Home with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service, and will continue Friday from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Schmitz, 55, of rural Adams, died Monday (Feb. 19, 1996) at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester.

He was born Oct. 4, 1940, in Milwaukee, Wis., and graduated from Adams High School and Austin Junior College. On May 25, 1963, he married Mary C. Dralle at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Adams. Mr. Schmitz was the co-owner of Schmitz Electric Co. and former partner of S & M Controls Inc. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where he served on the Sacred Heart Parish Council and was a member of the Adams Commercial Club. In addition, he served on the Southland School Board.
He is survived by his wife, Mary of Adams; three sons, David, Bill and Allan, and a daughter, Susan (Mrs. David) Lagerstedt, all of Adams; eight grandchildren; his mother, Helen (Bauer) Schmitz of Adams; a sister, Louise (Mrs. Norman) Eastman of McIntire, Iowa; and two brothers, Patrick Schmitz of Unalakleet, Alaska and Peter Schmitz of Adams. He was preceded in death by his father.
Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Adams Funeral Home in Adams, where there will be a 7 p.m. wake service. Friends may also call from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home on Thursday.
