She was born in Loganville, WI on July 19, 1923, the daughter of the late William and Ella (Gade) Kaun. Dorothy graduated from high school, and she later married Glenn J. Deringer on September 1, 1947 in West Allis, WI. He predeceased her on March 30, 1992. Dorothy was a very active and devoted member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church for many years. Over the years, Dorothy did babysitting, waitressing, and worked as a sales clerk and doing alterations at JC Penney. She also owned her own upholstering business for over 20 years, bringing life back to worn out furniture. Dorothy was a very active and independent woman, who enjoyed water walking at the YMCA, participating in all the activities where she lived, as well as playing pinochle with her friends. She was a very active volunteer in the community, putting her talents to use at the Literacy Council, ECHO, River Place Apartments, and her church for decades.

She is survived by her two children, Carol (James) Schmeling of Janesville and William (Darla) Deringer of Novi, MI; grandchildren and great-grandchildren who she adored: Bradley (Christy) Deringer of Novi, MI and their son: Jon; Sara (Jamey Kohorst) Deringer-Kohorst of Holt, MI and their children: Asher and Scarlett; and Dr. Tamara (Dr. Russell) Grant of York, United Kingdom. She is further survived by her sisters, Leona Jones of Janesville and Arlene Peterson of Tacoma, WA; her sisters-in-law, Louise Kaun of Loganville, WI and Jenny Kaun of Reedsburg, WI; her very special friends and pinochle players: Betty, Pat, Glenis and Pat; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her granddaughter, Melissa Schmeling; brothers: Edmund, Harold, Paul, Alfred, Alvin, Robert, William, and Richard; and her brother-in-law, Evan Jones.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church with Rev. David Bergelin officiating. Burial will be at Milton Lawns Memorial Park. Visitation will be on Monday from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Whitcomb – Lynch Funeral Home and again on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. Memorials would be greatly appreciated if they were made to Agrace HospiceCare or ECHO.

She was the 11th of 12 children and grew up during the Great Depression. On September 6, 2018, the Lord took her home. She kept battling the medical challenges of at least ten years, and tried to live each day to the fullest as a strong, curious, and powerful spirit. Teddy's mission of exploring, engaging, and creating potential in others continues through her three children, Cindy Petersen of Olympia, WA, Mark Petersen of Woodinville, WA, and Tim Petersen of Sioux City, IA. Her eldest daughter, Kathleen, passed one day after her birth. Teddy was a proud grandma of Christopher, Valerie, Jenna, and Matthew, as well as great-grandma of Olivia. The family thanks People's Retirement Community of Tacoma and Mother Joseph Care Center of Olympia for their diligence, care, and support during these past years. Teddy was a prolific poet, photographer, and an avid outdoor enthusiast, who had been described as "an awesome force of nature with a great sense of humor." Her family will be sharing selections of her poetry, photography, and stories at Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tacoma on Sunday, September 30, 2018, at 12:00 p.m., along with some of her favorite recipes to sample. Teddy loved to form community through the magic of breaking bread and the sharing that follows.

Richard was born to Douglas G. and Lucille E. (nee Wagner) Abbott in Hartford. He graduated from high school in Pine City, Minnesota, and served as a brother in Detroit and Fort Wayne, Indiana. He also served as an orderly part time at Hartford Memorial Hospital. In 1966, he joined the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1969. He was united in marriage to Mary Lynn Jo Ferstl on Oct. 16, 1971, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Reedsburg. He worked for International Stamping (Midas) in Hartford, retiring after 30 years. He enjoyed gardening; watching movies, especially Turner Classic movies always with a bowl of popcorn; visiting family in Cornell, Iowa and Indiana; seeing shows at the Fireside; and taking day bus tours with Mary. He was dedicated to God, the church, and serving others. He served as a Eucharistic Minister and a lay minister; confirmation teacher for both St. Lawrence and St. Kilian Catholic Churches; an altar server; a past grand knight of the Knights of Columbus Council 2689; Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus; member of the Third Order of Saint Francis; and a prior president of Senior Friends, Hartford.

Richard is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years, Mary Abbott; loving children, Brian (Sara) Abbott of Cornell, James “Jim” Abbott of Hartford and Lynn (Dan) Biertzer of Hartford; cherished grandchildren, Grady and Emma Abbott of Cornell, and Evan and Lucy Biertzer of Hartford; dear siblings, Dorothy (Tom) Waddell of Grafton, Lenore Abbott of Cudahy, Douglas (Sue) Abbott of Waukesha and Dianne Abbott of Yucaipa, California; and dear siblings-in-law, Karen Ferstl of Sheboygan, Kenneth Ferstl of Denton, Texas, Kolleen Johnson of Cottage Grove, and Sue Ferstl of La Valle. He is further survived by loved nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law, Joseph and Vera Ferstl; siblings, Donald Abbott and Tom (Delores) Abbott; and siblings-in-law, Allen Ferstl, Andrew Johnson, and Sondra Ferstl.

A Memorial Mass for Richard will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 23, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church (4886 Highway 175 Hartford, WI 53027) with the Rev. Davies Edassery officiating. Family will greet relatives and friends at the church Friday from 9:30-11:15 a.m. Following Mass, military honors will be performed.

Private internment will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Hartford.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to St. Lawrence Catholic Church are appreciated. The Shimon Funeral Home is assisting the family.
