Clara I. Was born on February 7, 1927, in Crofton, NE to Joseph L. and Frances M. (Eckholt) Perk, she is the second of 11 children. She attended St. Rose of Lima School in Crofton, NE. She came to work in Yankton at age 16. She met Ralph Kleinschmit and they were married on April 21, 1948, at St. Rose of Lima in Crofton, NE, from this union six children were born. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the choir, Catholic Daughters of America, and of the Sacred Heart Funeral Committee. She led the rosary at daily Mass. She always enjoyed times spent with her family, grandchildren, her garden, flowers and visiting with good friends.
Her memory will be cherished by her husband, Ralph of Yankton, SD; three sons: Joseph and Bobbie (Montgomery) Kleinschmit of Yankton, SD, Kevin and Deb (Uhing) Kleinschmit of Fordyce, NE, and Frank and Roberta (Tejral) Kleinschmit of St. Helena, NE; three daughters: Ruth and Roman Steffen of Fordyce, NE, Kathy and Louis (Chip) Brewer of Yankton, SD and Barb and Dale Hansen of Yankton, SD; one brother Eugene Perk of Yankton, SD; six sisters: Betty (Ken) Kaltenbach of Beresford, SD, Donna (Jerry) Steckler of Yankton, SD, Bernella (Dell) Simmons of Maryville, MO, Anna Lee Sweeney of Ames, IA, Jenita (Don) Baltzer of Grand Mesa, AZ and Patricia (Marv) Kuchta of Ashton, NE; a sister-in-law Ann Louise Perk of Sioux Falls, SD; a brother-in-law Tony Goeden of Menominee, NE; 33 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

Elizabeth, daughter of Clemens and Gertrude Suing, was born December 10, 1875 at Bow Valley. Her entire life was spent in her home community. She was married to Henry J. Sudbeck of Bow Valley April 25, 1890. Mr. Sudbeck died February 11 of this year. She was a member of the Christian Mothers of Ss. Peter and Paul Church. She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. T.J. (Margaret) Arens, Miss Helen of Hartington, and Mrs. Otto (Regina) Wieseler of St. Helena; two sons, Arthur and Rudolph Sudbeck of Hartington; two sisters, Mrs. Theo.

Leona was born on July 25, 1920 in Crofton to John and Carolina (Luft) Arens and lived in the Crofton area most of her life. For four years before her marriage, she lived and worked in Yankton, SD doing house work. She married Raymond Thunker on January 14, 1942. They farmed for six years in rural Crofton before moving to town in 1948. She worked at Buckholt's Café, People's Grocery, the Crofton Library and the Gambles store in Crofton and was the bookkeeper for Ray's Occo and Dekalb businesses. She also worked for Gurney's Customer Service Dept in Yankton for 17 years. Leona was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 1963. She was told by two doctors that they would make her as comfortable as possible for the little time she had left but she outlived both of them. She was proud to participate as a cancer survivor in Relay for Life every year and was once a guest speaker. She was well known throughout the area for baking and decorating many creative wedding, anniversary, graduation and birthday cakes. She enjoyed cooking for family and friends as well as sewing and crocheting. She loved traveling with her husband while he was alive but later traveled alone. She was able to visit almost every state and enjoyed trips to Europe. The last trip she made by herself was to England at the age of 86. Leona loved socializing with her friends at the Crofton Senior Center and was an avid bingo player. She loved to shop and was a proud bargain-finder. She was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Crofton, Christian Mothers and Catholic Daughters of America and attended Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Gainesville. Raymond was born on August 23, 1921 at Crofton to John W. and Caroline "Lena" (Luft) Arens. He grew up on a farm south of Crofton and attended District 95 School. On September 17, 1942 he entered the U.S. Army and his first combat was the Battle of Attu Island off the coast of the Aleutian chain of islands off the coast of Alaska. Before the war was over he went to Kista Island and six months later to Kwajalein, Atoll Island of the Philippines and Okinawa. He went to Korea for disarmament and arrived back home on November 28, 1945. Ray married Frances P. Tramp on January 7, 1946 at Crofton and farmed 5 1/2 miles northwest of Crofton for 19 years and then for two years on a farm 1/2 mile northeast of Crofton. In 1967 they bought a house in Crofton. Ray worked for Hesse Implement in Crofton from 1965 to 1985. Frances died on October 1, 1984 at the age of 62. Ray married Norma Jean (DeLozier) Rose on June 21, 1985 at Bloomfield. They lived on a farm west of Bloomfield until moving to Norfolk in 2006. Norma died on December 12, 2006 and Ray then moved to the Meadows in Norfolk in February of 2007.
Ray was a member of the St. Andrews Catholic Church in Bloomfield and the Bloomfield American Legion Post #249. He was a former member of the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church and the Crofton American Legion Post #128. He loved to visit with his family and friends, play cards, and travel.
Ray is survived by five children and their spouses; Allan and Irma Arens of Crofton, Kenneth and Connie Arens of Branson West, MO, DelRae and Steve Luehrs of Branson West, MO, Rick and Vonnie Arens of Randolph, and Deborah Halle of Maryville, TN, 13 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren, three step children; Richard Rose of Center, Dianna and Keith Eckmann of Niobrara, Kevin and Terri Rose of Alvo, a step son- in- law; Jack Broders of Crofton, 10 step grandchildren, six step great grandchildren, three sisters; Leona Thunker of Crofton, Viola Reifenrath of Crofton, Eleanor and Sam Nelson of St. Helena, four brothers; Irvin and Barbara Arens of Randolph, Harold and Margaret Arens of Crofton, Gerald Arens of Hartington, Alvin and Sharron Arens of Norfolk, and a sister-in-law, Arlene Arens of Crofton.

After retiring he was instrumental in organizing the Crofton Lakeview Golf Course Association. He spent countless hours in the construction and management of building the course. He was a charter member serving as president of the Board of Directors and superintendent/manager of the course. He also owned and operated the Sharp All Shop. Lawrence was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Crofton. Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann, Crofton; two children and their spouses, Larry and Ann Arens, Crofton; Judy and Steve Boesch, Vernon Hills, Ill; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Bernie (Sharon) Asbra, Laurel; 11 grandchildren, Amy and T. Harold Alfred was born on July 31, 1927, along with his twin brother, Gerald, to John and Caroline (Luft) Arens on the family's rural Crofton farm. Growing up, he attended District 95 country school in Dolphin Township. He also attended St. Rose School in Crofton and Crofton High School. Harold was drafted along with several other northeast Nebraska men to fill the ranks of the Pennsylvania National Guard in 1951 during the Korean Conflict. He spent two years stationed in Ulm, Germany, serving in Company G, 110th Infantry, 28th Division. Harold looked up the Arens family roots while serving in Germany. He was a member of Crofton American Legion Post 128. After returning home from the service, he farmed with his parents, and during the drought years, he worked for a vault company in Omaha and in the construction of Oahe and Gavins Point dams. He helped seed grass in many of the recreation areas along Lewis and Clark Lake. On May 14, 1960, Harold married Margaret Bickett at St. Agatha's Catholic Church in Howard, SD. They made their home on the Arens family farm along West Bow Creek south of Crofton for 37 years. Over the years, he and Margaret were awarded conservation awards, including the Lewis and Clark NRD Conservation Farm Award in 1993. He helped Santa Claus over the holidays by delivering candy to neighborhood friends and children. He was honored with the Ak-Sar-Ben Good Neighbor Award. He was a club leader of Lucky Livewires 4-H Club and served on the Knox County Extension Board. He was a lifetime member of St. Rose Parish, serving as APC delegate and on parish council. He loved volunteering for the church, helping with improvement projects and even changing light bulbs in church. He was also a member of the St. Rose Knights of Columbus, Catholic Order of Foresters and was a strong supporter of St. Rose School. Harold semi-retired from farming in 1990, because of bronchial asthma. After farming, he worked at Roger's Yamaha in Bloomfield, and then took a job with Walmart in Yankton, SD when the store opened. He served for nearly 20 years as a people greeter. Harold is survived by his wife, Margaret, Crofton; two sons and their wives: Paul and Jules Arens, Bellwood, NE and granddaughter Josie Arens; and Curt and Donna Arens, Crofton and granddaughters Lauren and Taylor Arens and grandson, Zachary Arens; three sisters, Viola Reifenrath, Crofton, Eleanor Nelson and her husband, Sam, St. Helena and Leona Thunker, Gainesville, VA; his twin brother, Gerald, Hartington, NE; and brothers, Irvin, Randolph, NE and Alvin and his wife, Sharon, Norfolk, NE; sister-in-law, Arlene Arens, Crofton. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Benedict Arens (died at birth), Clarence Arens, Lawrence Arens and Raymond Arens and sister, Ceceilia Reifenrath; brother in-laws, Norbert Reifenrath, Raymond Thunker, Albert Reifenrath; sister in-laws, Barbara Arens, MaryAnn Arens, Francis Arens, Norma Jean Arens, and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will begin at 9:30 am on Tuesday at the church. In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials to St. Rose School or Parish.

Gerald was born on July 31, 1927 along with his twin brother, Harold, on the family farm near Crofton to John William and Caroline Mary (Luft) Arens. Gerald was a special need person throughout his life. He attended District 95 country school and St. Rose of Lima elementary school. He made his first confession and received First Communion at St. Rose. He was active on the farm, helping his brothers with various chores. His main job was tending to the chickens, gathering eggs and helping his mother with house work and helping in the garden. In 1965 he moved with his parents into Crofton and began attending Region IV School in Bloomfield, NE. This changed his life allowing him to develop mentally and make many friends. He worked at various places as a janitor but was very proud of the time he spent as a janitor at Prince Hydraulics in Hartington. Gerald cared for his mother during her illness and then cared for his dad. He had an apartment at the Cottonwood Villa in Crofton until 2003 and then moved to the Golden Living community in Hartington. In 2006 he entered the Golden Living Center in Hartington.

Gerald enjoyed doing paint by number pictures, latch work and sewing pot holders. He gave many gifts of his work to family members and friends. He was a member of the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church.

Gerald is survived by 2 brothers, Irvin Arens of Yankton, formerly of Randolph, NE; Alvin (Sharron) Arens of Norfolk, NE; a sister, Eleanor (Sam) Nelson of St. Helena, NE; a sister-in-law, Margaret Arens and her husband Roger Yates of Crofton and numerous nieces and nephews.

Arens on September 15, 1947 at St. Joseph?s Catholic Church in Constance, NE. They farmed southwest of Crofton until 1955 when they moved to a farm north of Randolph, NE. After their retirement in 2001, they moved to Randolph. She was an active member of St. Jane Frances de Chantal Catholic Church including 50 year member of Christian Mothers, P.C.C.W. member, Ministry of Praise, Prayer Group, Eucharistic Minister, Pro Life director and past president of the Northcentral Deanery of Catholic Women, C.C.D. teacher, Norfolk Serra Club, active in the Randolph Senior Citizen Center and St. Frances Quilting group and Hospice care. Barb will be sadly missed and mourned by her best friend and husband of 62 years, Irvin Arens of Randolph and 8 children and their spouses: John and Sue Arens of Randolph; Steve and Jean Arens of Randolph; Arnie and Carla Arens of Omaha; Marcel and Janet Arens of Hartington; Joyce and Doyle Stevens of Crofton; Tom and Jobi Arens of Peoria, AZ; Julie and Mark Lewandowski of Overland Park, KS; Kevin and Kathy Arens of Lincoln, NE; 18 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
