Wilma was born January 14, 1931 in Bloomfield IL, the daughter of Carl H. and Ethel M. Bollman Kasparie. She attended Bloomfield School. She married Birney M. Whitley on June 28, 1980 in Quincy. He preceded her in death on June 6, 1999.

She was an accomplished seamstress who loved to make Barbie doll clothes, and crocheting scarves for friends and family. She also made the best birthday cakes. She had a large asparagus patch and actually met her husband selling asparagus to his mother. Wilma and Bernie loved to hunt and fish together. Over the years she became a pretty good shot. She thought the world of her dogs, Boots and Rex.

Survivors include: nieces and nephews, Larry (Linda) Kasparie of Liberty, Nancy Walker of Quincy, Lois (Brad) Dickson of Quincy, Connie (John) Maxwell of Chatham, IL, Ron (Betty) Kasparie of Quincy, Mike (Diane) Kasparie of Maywood, MO, Jim (Michelle) Kasparie of Quincy, Darlene of Stockton, CA, and Diane Riley of Quincy; as well as some very good neighbors, Donna and LeRoy Goodwin.

In addition to her husband, Wilma was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers Garner and Gerald Kasparie and a sister Neva Siebers.

Services: 11:00 am on Monday, January 11, 2021 at the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home with Rev. Martin Eden officiating

Burial: Greenmount Cemetery, Quincy, Illinois

She was a native of Prussia, where she was born on February 1, 1840. Her maiden name was Sena Daudch. She was united in marriage with M. J. Neisius in 1858 and they came to America in 1871, settling in Roscoe county. Six children were born to their union of whom three boys passed away in early
manhood. Three living are: Mrs. John Neisius, Mrs. Kate Peysen and John Neisus. There are also nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Mr. Neisus is seventy-seven years old. He and his wife celebrated their golden wedding anniversary three years ago. The funeral will be held on Saturday at St. Joseph’s church.

St. Francis Home in Dubuque, Iowa, where he had lived for the past five
years. Mr. Wittkop had been sick for the past two weeks. Deceased had
reached the advanced age of 77 years, 5 months, and 14 days.

John Wittkop was born at Merisheim, Germany, on May 1, 1861. He married
Theresa Niggemann in Germany and they immediately came to this country and
settled near Remsen. Shortly after their arrival here, they took up farming
south of Remsen until 1900 when he purchased additional land southeast of
LeMars. They moved here and farmed until 19 years ago.

Surviving to mourn his loss are six sons and three daughters: Henry, John,
Mrs. John Neisius, Tony, George, Charles, William, Elizabeth and Theresa,
all of this vicinity. One brother, A. J. Wittkop, lives in Fairbanks,
Alaska. There are also four grandchildren who mourn his passing, Irvin,
Robert, George Jr., and James.

He was preceded in death by his wife and one daughter, Anna, who died at the
age of four.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday morning at 9:30 o'clock from St.
Catherine's Church, of Oyens, with Rev. H. Rolfes officiating. Interment
will be made in St. Catherine's cemetery under the direction of Wiltgen's
funeral chapel.

The former Elizabeth A. Wittkop was born Dec. 9, 1904, on the family farm south of Oyens in Marion Township, the daughter of John and Theresa (Niggemann) Wittkop. She grew up near Oyens and attended St. Catherine's Catholic School. Elizabeth married George D. Groetken in 1941 at St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Oyens. The couple farmed for a short time in Marion Township when a brain tumor was discovered in George. The couple moved to Le Mars and in 1942 George died. Mrs. Groetken has made her home in the town of Le Mars since that time.

Mrs. Groetken was a longtime member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Le Mars, the Christian Mother's Society, and a 50-year member of Catholic Daughters of America.

She enjoyed cooking and baking not only for her family but for friends and neighbors as well. Her favorite pastimes included working in her garden raising vegetables and flowers, and embroidering.

Survivors include a son Dennis Groetken of Le Mars; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband George in 1942; three sisters: Annie in childhood, Theresa Wittkop, and Mary Neisius; and six brothers: Henry, John, George, Tony, Charlie and William Wittkop.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30 a.m. today (Monday) at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Le Mars, with the Rev. Daniel Greving officiating. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation was after 3 p.m. Sunday at the Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars, where there was a Christian Mother's rosary at 4 p.m., a Scriptural wake Service at 7 p.m., and a Catholic Daughter's rosary at 8 p.m.

Pallbearers were Ross Mosher, Don Claeys, Zachariah Wurth, Kaleb Wurth, Ethan Niehus, and Aaron Niehus.
