John worked the family farm where he grew up and lived most of his life. He graduated from Ithaca High School in 1953 and later spent 10 years in the U.S. Army Reserve. He married Joan (Tourdot) Roessler and together raised their children.

John was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Kevin Roessler II. He is survived by his children Sheila (Tom) Robak, Kevin (Lisa) Roessler, Dawn (Brett) Mueller, Bryan (Kris) Roessler, and Shana Jatczak. His grandchildren Hailey Roessler, Kelsey Roessler, Logan Roessler, Auden Jatczak, Preston Jatczak, and Sabella Jatczak. He is also survived by one great grandchild, Odin Roessler.

The family would like to thank Schmitt Woodland Hills Senior Living for their compassionate care.

To honor John’s wishes there will not be a funeral service. His family invites you to privately celebrate John’s life in your own ways.

Doug was born on August 15, 1969 to David & Joyce (Schiffman) Pearce in Dubuque, IA. He was a graduate from Southwestern High School in 1987. He married Lisa Bennett on August 12, 1989 in Hazel Green, WI. Doug had a visionary talent with building and creating projects. Along with that strong work ethic, he later co-owned and operated Dream Builders with the late, Brett Runde. Doug enjoyed golfing, hunting, boating, NASCAR, but most of all, he enjoyed time spent with his family and friends. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Doug is survived by 3 children: Clarrisa (Corey) Binger of Monroe, WI, Pyzer (Katie) Pearce of Cuba City, WI & Preston (Abbey Kraisinger) Pearce of Hazel Green, WI; mother of his children: Lisa Bennett of Hazel Green, WI; 2 grandchildren with one on the way in June: Grayden Binger & Kam Pearce; 5 siblings: David (Carol) Pearce, Dennis (Pam) Pearce, Deb (Gary) Kaiser, Donald (Linda) Pearce & Dean (Carol) Pearce; a sister-in-law, Pilar (Tracy Wiegal) Swift; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother; Daniel Pearce, a grandchild, Baby Binger: and a niece, Maggie Pearce.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 1st at the Haudenshield Funeral Home & Crematory in Cuba City, WI. Family and friends may call on Friday, January 31st from 3:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at the Haudenshield Funeral Home & Crematory in Cuba City, WI; also on Saturday, February 1st from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Terry had requested no formal dress and to have everyone wear their favorite sports attire to the services. The Haudenshield Funeral Home & Crematory in Cuba City, WI is serving the family.

Terry was born September 22, 1960, to Richard & Rose Mary (Farrey) Burkholder in Hazel Green, WI. He was a graduate from Benton High School in 1979. He married the love of his life, Ellen L. Staskal, on September 29, 1984 at the Hazel Green United Methodist Church in Hazel Green, WI. Terry started his concrete career with his uncle, Kenny Stodden, and throughout the years worked for a few concrete finishing companies. In the early 2000s, Terry decided he wanted to work with others and not for someone. He became the sole proprietor of Burkholder Concrete. Terry’s claim to fame was his high-quality craftsmanship, never having to tear out and replace his work. Most of Terry’s business was via word of mouth from his hundreds of happy customers. Terry always said to the homeowner, “If you’re not happy, I’m not happy.”

Terry was a diehard Green Bay Packers, Wisconsin Badgers and Chicago “Scrubbies” fan, despite how openly he would often criticize them. Terry was his children’s #1 fan, being a constant in the stands supporting Hazel Green rec sports, the Southwestern Wildcats and supporting his son’s forensics. He enjoyed deer and morel hunting, fishing, camping, euchre and a cold Busch Light at the cabin on the family farm. Most of all, Terry enjoyed time with his children, grandchildren, family and friends. He will forever be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Terry is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Ellen Burkholder of Hazel Green, WI; 3 children: Stephanie (Jon) Lewerke of Hazel Green, WI, Zachary (Hannah) Burkholder of Racine, WI, and McKenzie Burkholder of Platteville, WI; 4 grandchildren: Riley Rose, Kason Jonathan, Sloane Maddeson and Aurelia Charlene; his father, Richard Burkholder, of rural Platteville, WI; 2 brothers: Dave (Sonia) Burkholder of Hazel Green, WI and Jeff (friend, Chuck) Burkholder of Dubuque, IA; his mother-in-law, Charlene Staskal of East Dubuque, IL; one of his best friends, Wayne “Buef” Allendorf of Scales Mound, IL; Ellen’s siblings; along with many cousins, nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

He will be greeted in heaven by his maternal and paternal grandparents, his mother, Rose Mary, his father-in-law, Edward Staskal, his niece and goddaughter, Maddeson Tersinar, one of his best friends, Joe Griffin, and the family Chocolate labs, Wally and Buddy.

Funeral Service will be 1:00 PM, Thursday, January 30, 2025 at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Akron, Iowa. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Akron. Visitation with the family present will begin at noon on Thursday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Immanuel Lutheran Church or the Akron Care Center, both in Akron, Iowa.

She was born on January 13, 1929 to Lloyd and Esther (Peterson) Fickbohm in Union County, SD. She attended elementary school at Hoyt and graduated from Akron High School in 1946. LaVon was united in marriage to Lawrence Maynard on September 7, 1947 at Union Creek Lutheran Church in rural South Dakota just outside Akron,Iowa.

LaVon was a long-time member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Akron. She volunteered as the secretary/treasurer for the Church Women United for 20 years. She was also a charter member of the YOMACO Club in Akron. She was a devoted farm wife who loved to cook, trying new recipes all the time. She and her husband loved to dance and traveled to follow their favorite bands. She was a loving aunt, who despite the 1000 mile distance, kept in touch with family and never missed a birthday or holiday card.

LaVon is survived by her husband of 77 years, Lawrence; niece, Mary Sever; nephew, Mark Sever; several grand nieces and nephews; other extended relatives; good friends: Connie and Orin Blake, and Bob Popken.

LaVon is preceded in death by her parents; parents in law, Sidney and Iris (Bihlmeyer) Maynard; and sister, Marian (Neal) Sever.

Hospital in Madison following a lifelong battle with Cystic Fibrosis. Laurie was born on May 24, 1963 in Janesville to Donald and Mary (Weitzel) Gies. She was a 1981 graduate of Janesville Parker High School. Laurie married Tim Balk of Dodgeville on June 20, 1987 and the couple lived in Dodgeville their entire married life. Laurie worked as a Computer Analyst at Lands' End for over 20 years. She went back to college and earned her B.S. in Logistics from U.W. Platteville at age 51. She then worked for a short time for the D.N.R. in Madison. Laurie fought C.F. her entire life and raised tens of thousands of dollars for C.F. research. She had a true love for the out of doors and enjoyed hunting and fishing with her best friend, her husband, Tim. When she was no longer able to hunt and fish, her interests turned to gardening, canning and cooking.

Laurie is survived by her husband, Tim of Dodgeville; son, Trevor (Megan Socker) of Janesville; two granddaughters; her parents, Donald and Mary Gies of Janesville; two brothers, Kevin (Julie) Gies of Smyrna, TN and Brian Gies of Janesville; her mother-in-law, Joan Balk of Dodgeville; brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Ken (Saundra Hopkins) Balk of Sun River, OR; Kathy (Jerry) Severson of Salem, WI; Kevin (Cindy) Balk of Platteville and Al (Tammy) Balk of Reedsburg as well as aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and many friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Laurie A. Balk, age 56, of Dodgeville will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, January 3, 2020 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Dodgeville. Fr. Tafadzwa Kushamba will officiate with burial in East Side Cemetery. Visitation will be held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church from 3:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M.
