He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Ann Schollmeyer Stoll; his parents; and two nieces Elaine (Delbert) Fritz and Rose (Hobart) Hind.

He arrived in Billings Montana in 1885, with his family. He was the founding member of the family firm of A. Fraser & Co., livestock brokers. Fraser was also longtime member and officer of the Maverick Hose Company.
He married his longtime sweetheart Alice B. Nickey on September 24, 1898 in Big Timber, Montana. They had five children.
James G. Fraser was a successful sheep broker and community leader. He developed cancer and died prematurely on October 24, 1924, leaving the company that he founded to his two surviving brothers.
