Death14 November 2023Bernadine A. Lins died on 14 November 2023 at age 96 As gracefully as she lived, Bernadine (Bernie) A. Beck, 96, died peacefully in her sleep on November 14, 2023, at The Pines Assisted Living in Prairie du Sac, WI. She was born December 13, 1926, to Frank and Cecilia (Gruber) Lins in Pittsville, WI. The third oldest of nine children, she grew up on a large farm near Leland, WI. Siblings Francis, Donald, Evelyn, Victor, and Valeria preceded her in death.

A standout student, Bernie graduated valedictorian of her class at St. Luke's High School in Plain, WI. On January 12, 1948, she married Robert (Bob) A. Beck at St. Luke's Catholic Church. They moved to Lodi shortly after when Bob accepted a job to manage the Lodi creamery. She initially worked as a librarian at the Lodi Woman's Club Library, but she later worked as a legal secretary for Donald M. Ryan for over 25 years.

Bernie, beautiful inside and out, will be remembered as a woman of strong faith. Her two children, Margaret Ann (Peggy) and James, were raised in a Christian home. Polite manners, punctuality, and thank-you notes were important expectations. Her talent in growing roses was unequaled. Bob and Bernie delighted in all three of their grandchildren–Samuel (Sam), Anna, and Lukas. To many of Sam’s and Anna’s friends, she was “Grandma Bernie” whose house was a frequent after-school hangout. To her great-grandchildren, she will be remembered as their “Grandma Great." She loved their visits to The Pines, and they loved poems that she could still recite to them.

She is survived by children, Peggy (Bill) Falkenstein, Jim (Vilma) Beck; grandchildren, Anna (John) Meister and Lukas (MacKenzie) Beck; and great-grandchildren, Evelyn, Jack, and Will Meister and Lucian Beck. She is also survived by sisters, Lois Lins and Imelda Adelman, and brother, Gary (Virginia) Lins; sisters-in-law Mavis Lins and Noreen Beck; and many nieces and nephews. Blessedly, she is now united in heaven with her husband, Bob, and grandson, Sam.
