Sunday evening, December 30 at 10:55 o'clock. The funeral services were conducted at the Union church in New Canton Wednesday afternoon...by Rev. Harlow Reed, pastor of the Nazarene church at Illasco and interment was made in the Shearer cemetery. He is survived by two sons, Mert Whitley of Illasco and Elmer Whitley of Hannibal, several grandchildren, a sister, Mrs. Nancy Saxbury of New Canton, a brother William Whitley of Carterville, Mo., and a half-sister, Mrs. Amanda Steele of Quincy. Mr. Whitley spent most of his life in New Canton. His first wife died a number of years ago. In 1906 he remarried and his second wife was a victim of the flood here September 8, 1926, when the Kiser creek levee broke near their little home, and swept through it with such force that the front of the house was washed out and she was carried away. Mr. Whitley looked on unable to aid her and when neighbors answered his calls an hour later, when the waters had abated, found the frail little man clinging to a dresser and heard his tragic tale. Her body was found several blocks away. Since then he has lived with his sisters and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Saxbury, but his health failed and last October he suffered a paralytic stroke. Mr. Whitley spent most of his life in New Canton. His first wife died a number of years ago. In 1906 he remarried and his second wife was a victim of the flood here September 8, 1926, when the Kiser creek levee broke near their little home, and swept through it with such force that the front of the house was washed out and she was carried away. Mr. Whitley looked on unable to aid her and when neighbors answered his calls an hour later, when the waters had abated, found the frail little man clinging to a dresser and heard his tragic tale. Her body was found several blocks away. Since then he has lived with his sisters and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Saxbury, but his health failed and last October he suffered a paralytic stroke. When he recovered sufficiently to be moved he was taken to Ilasco where he has since been.

She was born July 18, 1912 in Marshall County, Iowa, the daughter of Frank Francis and Dora Bell Dent Judd. On June 22, 1929, she married James Franklin Whitley in Hannibal, Missouri. He preceded her in death on December 9, 1979.
She had been employed by International Shoe Company for 25 years. She was a member of The Crossing and was an avid fisherman. Survivors include a son Robert Whitley and his wife Mernice, Quincy; a daughter, Sue Ann Beilsmith, Quincy; 7 grandchildren; Bobette Cawthon and her husband Brian, Quincy; Myrna Whitley, Quincy; Joe Whitley and his wife Sandy, Fountain Inn, S.C., Julie Howlett and her husband Todd, Louisville, Ky; Roy Whitley, San Antonio, TX: Melinda Whitley, TX; and Lori Metz, Quincy; 10 great grandchildren, and several great great grandchildren; 3 sisters, Winnia Jean, Carolyn and Betty, all of California; 2 daughters-in-law Darlene and Wilma Whitley, both of Quincy.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 2 sons Ronald F. Whitley and Birney Whitley, a brother, Frank Judd, 2 sisters Helen and Audrey and a grandson Monte Metz. Funeral Services will be Wednesday morning at 11a.m. in the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home with the Rev. Wanda Seydel officiating. Burial in Greenmount Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to North Adams Home.

Sue was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Monty Metz; and two brothers: Bernie and Ronnie Whitley

On February 10, 1951, Jack married Frances Hicks at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Lenox, where he was a lifelong member. Jack was a former drywall taper, loved his family, outdoor yard work, landscaping, nature, animals and birdhouses. Patriotism was very important to Jack and he proudly flew his U.S. flag every day. Jack is survived by his wife, Frances; daughter, Helen (Tony Walters) Long of Harrison Twp; grandsons, Richard Long and Bill Walters; twin sister, Mickey Sawitzky of Almont; and sisters-inlaw, Verna Mayer of New Haven, Barbara Prieskorn of Macomb and Faye Prieskorn of PA. Jack was predeceased by siblings, Bill and Edwin “Bud” Mayer, Gordon, David and Glenn Prieskorn, Karen Parson and Carolyn Kuchenmeister. A funeral service is 10 a.m. Tuesday, January 26, 2010 at Tiffany-Young and Hauss Funeral Home, 73919 North Avenue (north of 33 Mile), Armada. Burial with military honors follows in Meade Cemetery. Visitation is Monday 2-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made for family wishes.

She has a display of her religious paintings at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Lenox.
Helen is survived by her husband, Tony Walters; sons, Richard Long and Bill Walters, both of Harrison Township; mother, Frances (nee Hicks) Prieskorn of Chesterfield; parents-in-law, Richard and Diane Walters of Grosse Pointe Shores; special friends, Pork Chop and Pookie; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Helen was predeceased by her father, John "Jack" Prieskorn on January 23, 2010.
Memorial service 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 14, 2011 at St. Peter Lutheran Church, 60980 Omo Rd., Lenox with the Rev. Scott McKinney officiating. Burial in Meade Cemetery, Macomb Township.
