Beresford on October 30, 1954 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, she passed on March 29, 2016. Leonard worked for the Fischer Company and retired after 28 years of service. He enjoyed bowling, carpentry work, and volunteered at the Arboretum after retiring.

Survivors include his children; Ron (Laurie) Helbing of Asbury and Cheryl (Teddy) Simon of Bernard; eight (8) grandchildren, Megan, Josh, Jarred, Ryan, Jeff, Alex, Kayla, and Austin; eleven (11) great-grandchildren; siblings, Joan (Merlin) Patzner, and Eileen (Dave) Lange; in-laws, Kate Bradley, Hazel (Erwin) Schulpletz, Robert (Carol) Beresford, Keith (Jane) Beresford, and Bunny Helbing.

He was born on Feb. 28, 1916, in rural Cuba City, son of John and Anna (Hinderman) Helbing . He married Elma Dalsing on Sept. 16, 1940, in Kieler; she died on May 3, 1988.

He was a member of St. Rose Parish. Joe loved to be with his family and grandchildren. He enjoyed going on trips and visiting with people.

Surviving are three daughters, Mary Jean (Gary) Nicks, of Dubuque, Judith (Eldon) Wiederholt, of Cuba City, and Doris (Mike) Lange, of Hazel Green; three sons, Harold (Sandy) Helbing and Kenneth (Elaine) Helbing , both of Dubuque, and John (Nancy) Helbing, of Cuba City; a son-in-law, Marvin Ludwig, of Cuba City; 30 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Evelyn (Richard) Nilles and Elizabeth Dalsing, both of Dubuque, JoAnne (Merlin) Patzner, of Potosi, and Elaine (Dave) Lange, of Mount Prospect, Ill; four brothers, Ed (Leora) Helbing and Bill (Susie) Helbing, both of Cuba City, Leonard (Bev) Helbing, of Dubuque, and Merlin (Bunny) Helbing, of Cuba City.

He was preceded in death by three daughters, Ann and Mary, both in infancy, and Rita Ludwig, on Jan. 15, 1985; an infant son, Joseph J; and two sisters, Margaret Schardt and Louise Droessler.

Mr. Helbing was a master plumber until his retirement in 1981. He then continued to aid his son, Jim, in his plumbing business.

He was born on Dec. 15, 1919, in rural Cuba City, son of John and Anna (Hinderman) Helbing. He married Leora Jansen on Oct. 3, 1945.

Ed was a former parish council member and was very helpful in maintaining St. Rose's plumbing and heating needs. After retirement, he enjoyed woodworking, playing cards and spending time with his family.

Surviving are his wife, Leora, of Cuba City; three daughters, Jean (Bob) Runde, of Hazel Green, Janice (Mike) Cammack, of Apple Canyon Lake, Ill., and Diane (Steve) Runde, of Cuba City; three sons, Jim (Carol) Helbing , of Hazel Green, and Roger (Sandy) Helbing and Gary (Cathy) Helbing , both of Cuba City; four sisters, Evelyn (Richard) Nilles and Elizabeth Dalsing, both of Dubuque, Joan (Merlin) Patzner, of Potosi, and Elaine (Dave) Lange, of Mount Prospect, Ill; three brothers, Bill (Susie) Helbing and Merlin (Bunnie) Helbing , both of Cuba City, and Leonard (Bev) Helbing , of Dubuque; and 14 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Larry was raised in Dubuque, where he attended Sacred Heart Grade School and Wahlert High School. In 1968, he married Yvonne Statham; they were blessed with sons, Bruce and Eric. In 1982, he married Beverly Zoodsma; they were blessed with a son, Justin. From 1962 to 1982, he served his country honorably in the U.S. Air Force, mostly tours overseas, and retired as a master sergeant. Larry returned to college, earning a B.A. degree in psychology at UW-Madison. He subsequently worked a variety of jobs in Wisconsin, including being a lumberjack for K & M Tie and Lumber and a bartender at Fisherman's Cove, both in Okee, and as a manager for Kaltenberg Seed Farm in Waunakee. After suffering a massive stroke in 1996, he retired and began volunteering at Sauk Prairie Memorial Hospital. In 2002, he left behind the cold Wisconsin winters and moved to Las Cruces, where he volunteered at the Casa De Peregrinos Food Pantry and Booker T. Washington Elementary School. Survivors include his sons, Bruce Nilles (fiancee, Bonnie Cosgrove) of Madison, and Eric Nilles of Iowa City, Iowa, and their mother, Yvonne; son, Justin Nilles, also of Madison, and his mother, Beverly; his father, Richard Nilles of Dubuque, Iowa; brother, Keith (Laura) Nilles of Lawrence, Kan; and sisters, Joyce (Dick) Smith of Dyersville, Iowa, and Ann (John) Powers of Dubuque, Iowa. Other survivors include his goddaughter, Amy Powers, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Evelyn; and a brother, Tom. Services will be held at noon on Saturday, Jan. 29, 2005, at the SACRED HEART CATHOLIC CHURCH in Dubuque, Iowa. The burial will be at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Dubuque, Iowa, with military rites by the Dubuque Marine Corps League. A private family visitation will be held on Saturday at Hoffmann Schneider Funeral Home, 1640 Main St., Dubuque, Iowa.
