She was married to Lawrence Hynes and together they had two children. Helena was later the wife and companion of Laurell Brown for more than 50 years. Together, they had four children. She loved playing cards, especially euchre, going on gambling trips, and spending time fishing with her family at their trailer in Prairie du Chien. Helena is survived by her husband, Laurell "Brownie" of Middleton; her children, Gary Brown of Mineral Point, Bonny (Mike Carpenter) Laufenberg of Pardeeville, Terry (Patty Connery-Brown) Brown of Barneveld, Rick (Karen) Hynes and Randy Hynes, both of Oregon; 11 grandchildren; six brothers, Vincent (Barbara) Puls of High Springs, Texas, Joseph Puls of California, Charles (Charlene) Puls of East Dubuque, Allen Puls of Aniston, Ala., Gerald (Juanita) Puls of East Dubuque, and Vernon (Joan) Puls of Dubuque, Iowa; a sister, Alice Heim of Dubuque, Iowa; two sisters-in-law, Mona Cook of Madison, and Beverly Dunbar of Platteville; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Barry, in infancy; a sister, Eleanor Dillon; a sister-in-law, Diane (Dick) Joungblood; and two brothers-in-law, Russell Cook and Charles Dunbar. Memorial Services will be held at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 8, 2007, at ELLESTAD FUNERAL HOME, 500 N. 8th St., Mount Horeb, with Pastor John Twiton officiating. Burial of cremains will be at Springdale Lutheran Cemetery at a later date. Friends may call from 2 p.m. - 4:15 p.m. prior to the service on Thursday at ELLESTAD FUNERAL HOME. Together they owned and operated Sonny & Bev's Tavern for 16 years. From 1968 until his retirement in 1990, Sonny was an insurance agent for Rural Mutual Insurance. Charles is survived by his wife, Beverly; six children, Belinda (Derek) Allender of Seattle, Wash., Jacalyn (Leroy) Schmieder of Rhinelander, Gloria (Jim) Auel of Garden City, Kan., Dan (Debra) Dunbar, Randy (Dawn) Dunbar and Deanna (Mike Digman) Dunbar all of Platteville; 11 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Lorraine (Louis) Knetter of Platteville and Sally Benson of Princeton, Minn; a sister-in-law, Rosa Dunbar of Platteville; and a brother-in-law, Otto Drehmel of Wausau. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Faye Drehmel; sister and brother-in-law, Inez and Walt Gluege; brother, James Dunbar; and brother-in-law, Ralph Benson. Visitation will be 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 17, 2005, at the BENDORF FUNERAL HOME, Platteville. There will be no services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Charles "Sonny" Dunbar Memorial Fund.

Survivors include her husband Jim “Hoot” Auel of Garden City; a daughter Melissa Line of Fennimore, Wisconsin; a step-daughter Pamela Auel of Cassville, Wisconsin; her mother Beverly Dunbar of Platteville, Wisconsin; 3 sisters Lindy & husband Derick Alexander of Seattle, Washington, Jackie & husband Lee Schmeider of Rhinelander, Wisconsin, and DeeDee Dunbar of Platteville, Wisconsin; 2 brothers Danny and wife Deb Dunbar of Platteville, Wisconsin and Randy & wife Dawn Dunbar of Platteville, Wisconsin; 5 grandchildren; and 3 great grandchildren. Gloria is preceded in death by her father.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City with Von Hunn officiating. A private family interment will take place at a later date. She was born Feb. 1, 1925, in Wausau, daughter of the late Charles and Edna (Volkman) Dunbar. On March 20, 1943, she married Otto Drehmel in Wausau. He survives. After marriage, the Drehmels moved to Dodgeville and in 1955 moved back to Wausau. Faye was a stay-at-home mom until her children were in junior high school. She had been employed at the former Sunnyvale Infirmary as a nurses aide. Among her favorite things to do were fishing, word search, jigsaw puzzles, crafts, sewing, embroidery and crocheting. She also enjoyed bowling and shooting pool. Special to Faye was the time spent with her children and grandchildren. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, the Senior Citizens Association and was a 50-year member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Survivors include her husband, Otto Drehmel, Wausau; a son, John (Peggy) Drehmel, Wausau; a daughter, Darla (Bob) Weaver, Watertown, S.D; five grandchildren, Jennifer (Tom) Doyen, Justine (Todd) DeVille, Kevin (Amy) Drehmel, Heather (Matt) Savage and Rochelle (Jeremy) Zilisch; 11 great-grandchildren; one brother, Charles, (Bev) Dunbar, Platteville; two sisters, Sally Benson, Princeton, Minn., and Lorraine (Dick) Knetter, Platteville; and a sister-in-law, Rose Dunbar, Platteville. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother and one sister. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 21, 2005, at Wesley United Methodist Church, Wausau. The Rev. Donald Dinsmore will officiate. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. Friends may call on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at the church. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established. Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth St., Wausau, is in charge of arrangements.
