He was born on May 24, 1920, the son of Sylvester and Susan (Duve) Brandt in Kieler, WI. Tubbs enlisted in the U. S. Army Air Corp in December 1941 serving in Italy, North Africa and the Panama Canal until September 1945 when he was honourably discharged at the rank of Sergeant. He was united in marriage to Mabel “Babe” Patcle on May 21, 1946 at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Potosi. Tubbs farmed in rural Potosi and was self-employed carpenter for many years. He enjoyed fishing and telling stories. Tubbs also loved to go to McCartney’s Corner for coffee every morning. Merlin is survived by his wife, Mabel “Babe” of 63 years; four children: Beth (Carl) Abing, Cassville, Greg (Mary) Brandt, Cuba City, Cathy (George) Pennekamp, Pat (Tom) Tobin and Jane (Dale) Ley, all of Potosi; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; a brother, Donald Brandt, Kieler; two sisters-in-law, Pearl Brandt, East Moline, IL and Helen Patcle, Potosi; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Walter and Karl. Funeral services were held on Monday, May 11, 2009 at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Tennyson with Father Richard Leffler officiating. Burial with Military Honors provided by the Berg Averkamp VFW Post #5276 and the American Legion Post #473, both from Potosi was held in St. Thomas Cemetery, Potosi. Family and friends were welcome from 9:00 a.m. until time of services Monday at the church. The Martin Funeral Home in Potosi is serving the family. In lieu of flowers and plants, memorials are preferred to the Potosi Rescue Squad and VFW Post #5276 of Potosi.

Babe was born on March 6, 1924 in Waterloo Township, WI, daughter of Frank and Anna (Knockle) Patcle. She married Merlin Tubbs Brandt on May 21, 1946 at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Potosi. Babe and Tubbs farmed in rural Potosi for most of their lives. In later years, she was a cook at Friedmans Supper Club. She also became known as Grandma Babe while working at Tee-Pee Daycare in Potosi.

Babe is survived by her children, Beth (Carl) Abing of Cassville, Greg (Mary) Brandt of Cuba City, Cathy (George) Pennekamp of Potosi, Pat (Tom) Tobin of Potosi, and Jane (Dale) Ley of Potosi; 12 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Donald Brandt of Kieler; a sister-in-law, Helen Patcle of Potosi; and several nieces, nephews, and other loving relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Merlin in 2009; her parents; two brothers, John Patcle and Frank Patcle Jr; and three sisters, Marge Zenz Cherrier, Mary Zenz, and Florence Elwell.

Funeral Services were held at 11 am on Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Tennyson, with Fr. Richard Leffler officiating. Burial was in St. Thomas Cemetery in Potosi. Friends called from 9 am until the start of the service Tuesday at the church. Martin Funeral Home, Potosi is serving her family.

Donald was born on September 29, 1915, in Sinnipee, near Kieler, the son of Sylvester and Susan (Duve) Brandt. He married Delores Dalsing on April 23, 1940. She preceded him in death on July 30, 1943. He married Elaine Dalsing on October 2, 1945. She preceded him in death on January 10, 1999.
Donald farmed in the Kieler area all of his life. Until a few years ago Donald was out feeding calves and driving the tractor. Until just recently he was driving the four-wheeler. He also owned and operated Brandt’s General Grocery Store in Kieler for a period of time. Donald was a lifetime member of Immaculate Conception Parish and its Holy Name Society. He was a pillar in his community, a leader to his family and friends, and a true believer in God and his Country.
Surviving are his seven children, Bob (Jeanette) Brandt, of Hazel Green, Mary Jean (Norman) Hanfeld and Karen (Elmer–deceased) Timmerman, both of Kieler, John (Sharon) Brandt, of Cuba City, Diane (Rick) Downing, of Iowa City, IA, David J. Brandt, of Hazel Green, and Joan (John) McClain, of Coralville, IA; 17 grandchildren, Roger (Barb) Brandt, Connie Brandt, Mike (Tracy) Hanfeld, Tony (Martha) Hanfeld, Laura (Ron) Slaats, Tammy (Bob) Brand, Molly (Brian) Lucey, Eric (Joy) Brandt, Melissa (Dave) Fichtinger, Carrie (Matt) Tellevik, Katie Brandt, Susie Downing, Tim (fiancé Beth) Downing, Dan (fiancé Sarah) Downing, Josh, Allison, and Brianna McClain; 24 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his in-laws, Donald (Jane) Dalsing, of Hazel Green, Liz Dalsing, of California, Bernadine Schaefer, of Platteville, and Agnes Kahle, of Hazel Green.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Janice Brandt (1959); a son–in-law, Elmer Timmerman (1999), three brothers and in-laws, Walter, Karl (Pearl) and Merlin (Babe); his mothers and fathers-in-law, Andrew and Louisa Dalsing and George and Sophie Dalsing; and his in-laws, Irma (Joe) Wiederholt, Delmar Dalsing, Myrtle (Art) Weber, Almira (Harold) Weber, Marie (Merlin) Bechen, Lowell Kahle and Elmer Schaefer.

Udelhofen, age 59, of Platteville, died on Sunday, Aug. 23, 2009, from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident in rural Grant County. Michael was born on March 25, 1950, in Lancaster, son of Lloyd and Rita (Droessler) Udelhofen. He graduated from Lancaster High School in 1968. After high school he served in the United States Navy for four years during the Vietnam War. He was married to Patrice Scheafer. He worked for more than 25 years at UW-Platteville, where he was superintendent of building and grounds, retiring on Dec. 21, 2007. He enjoyed tending to his flowers, gardens, fishing, riding his Harley and cleaning "Precious" (his truck). Mike enjoyed his time and companionship with his life partner Laurel Skrede, who also died in the accident. Mike is survived by his daughter, Erin (fiance, Joe Lorenz) Udelhofen of Wauwatosa; three brothers, Rick (Carol) Udelhofen of Bloomington, Mark (Rose Key) Udelhofen of Lancaster, and Jeff (Christy) Udelhofen of Bellflower, Calif; and a sister, Carol (Steve) Lewis of Lancaster. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2009, at ST. MARY'S CATHOLIC CHURCH, Platteville. Monsignor Charles Schluter will officiate. Military rites will be accorded by American Legion Post No. 42 and VFW Post No. 5274. Friends may call from 4 p.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday at the church. Memorials may be made to the Michael K. Udelhofen Memorial Fund. The Melby-Bendorf Funeral Home and Crematory, Platteville, is serving the family.
