She was born on Jan. 4, 1936, in Stoughton, the daughter of Paul and Marguerite (Altand) Friis. Helene married David Schwanke, her beloved husband of 27 years. She was self-employed for many years in the home cleaning business. She will always he remembered for her love of birds and her beautiful gardens. Helene is survived by her husband, David; her children, Darrell (fiance, Barb), Dorothy (Twoie) Gallagher, Doug Severson, Diane (John) Hanson, and Daniel (Lynn) Severson; and special grandchildren, Tiffanie, Richard, Jon, Tim, Ryan, Justin, Lindsay, Melissa, and Emily. Helene was anticipating the arrival of her newest granddaughter, Lily Helene. She is further survived by great-grandchildren, Amber and Aaron; and many other relatives, including the Schwanke family, friends, and special "cousins." She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Debra Olsen; and two brothers, Paul and Marcel Friis. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 25, 2003. The Rev. Arden Laper will preside. Burial will be in McFarland Cemetery.

Her parents, husband Arthur, and her two sons, Marcel and Paul Friis preceded her in death. Funeral services will be held at the GUNDERSON FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 16, 1996, with Rev. Bruce Burnside officiating. He had farmed for most of his life. He was well known for selling produce in downtown Reedsburg. Maurice and Lorna enjoyed twenty-five winters in Mesa, Arizona making many wonderful friends. They also enjoyed traveling especially to Hawaii and a fifty-two day trip to Canada and Alaska. Survivors include his wife, Lorna; two sons: Gary (Karen) Slaney, of Oregon, WI and Tim (Carla) Slaney, of Tyrone, Georgia; three grandchildren: Carli, Brad and Zach. His sisters: Irma Sarahan, Agnes, Backes, Myrtle Faultersack, Monica Ballweg and Joyce Williams; one brother: Bill Slaney; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings: Lyle, George and Marcella Slaney. Memorial services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, August 5, 2013 at St. Peter's Ev. Lutheran Church in Reedsburg with Pastor Paul Crolius officiating. Private family burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery. There will be a visitation from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service on Monday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Peter's Hardship Fund or the Sauk County Health Care Center would be appreciated. The family would like to give special thanks to the staff at the Sauk County Health Care Center for their exceptional care. Our appreciation is also extended to Pastors Crolius and Klingbeil for their many prayers and visits. The Hoof Funeral Home is serving the family.

Death13 October 2021Marlan LeRoy Craker died on 13 October 2021 at age 85 Marlan L Craker, age 85, of Reedsburg, WI passed away peacefully, with his family by his side, on Wednesday, October 13, 2021. Marlan was born on March 19, 1936 in the Town of Winfield. He was the son of Vinton and Viola (Wagner) Craker. Marlan married LaVera (Klitzke) Craker on December 3, 1955 and they had 5 wonderful children.

Marlan graduated from Reedsburg Area High School in 1954. He worked as a supervisor on the motor line for Hankscraft Motors for 20 years. He established Craker’s Acres and Craker Logging and Lumber where he farmed and logged with his sons. Marlan always took great pride in farming, raising cattle and crops. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family. He was a faithful member of St John Ev. Lutheran Church. Marlan will be remembered as a loving husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather and great grandfather.

Survivors include his loving wife of sixty-five years, LaVera; his children: Sheri (Ross Fuller) Craker, Sue (Rodney Deyo) Puttkamer, Jerry (Debbie) Craker and Jon (Carey) Craker. His grandchildren: Jennifer (James) Williams, Jason (Jenny) Puttkamer, Josh (Sarah) Puttkamer, Lindsey (Matt) Muchow, Caitey (Sam) Redeker, Lacey Craker, Nicholas Craker, Tanner Craker & Rydge (Brianna) Craker. Great grandchildren: August Williams, Jackson, Layla and Jake Puttkamer, Jace and Livia Puttkamer and Graham and Marlee Muchow. His best fur friend Zane. His sister, Evaline Klitzke, brother and sister- in-law, Lorna Slaney and Rupe Klitzke.

Marlan was preceded in death by his son, James Craker, infant grandson Ryan Puttkamer, his parents, Vinton and Viola Craker, siblings Delores Klitzke, brothers and sisters in law, William Kilitzke, Al and Vicky Klitzke, Morris Slaney, Ray and Elaine Newbury.

A funeral service for Marlan will be conducted at 11:30 AM on Saturday, October 16, 2021 at St. John Ev. Lutheran Church, Reedsburg, with Pastor Beth Voigt officiating. A visitation will be on Friday, October 15, 2021 from 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM at the Hoof Funeral home and again on Saturday from 10:30 AM until the time of the service. A fellowship luncheon will follow the burial in the Fellowship Hall of St. John Lutheran Church.
