She was born on Jan. 2, 1919, in the village of Plain to Margaret (Nachreiner) and William Ring. She was united in marriage to Donald Rieder on Nov. 16, 1938, at St. Luke's Catholic Church in Plain. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald on March 7, 1984, as well as her parents and an infant sister, Philomena and brothers-in-law, Lucian Bowar, Edward Liegel, Victor Bindl and several other nieces and nephews. She is survived by her nine children, Harvey (Jean) Rieder, Stanley Rieder, Donna (Lee) Schultz, Dennis (Carol) Rieder, Mary (Pete) Schutz, Gilbert (Ruthie) Rieder, Thomas (Teresa) Rieder, Philomena (Paul) Endres and Arline (Joe) Hess; 25 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; four sisters; and a brother, all of whom loved and cherished her, and will continue to in memory and in our hearts. She was involved in her church circle, Council of Catholic Women (CCW), taught religious education, and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Mom always loved to draw old barns, write stories about her happy childhood on the farm with her parents and siblings, play cards, and enjoyed flowers of all kinds. She loved to cook and bake, especially her famous cinnamon rolls, of which we all have our own story. She loved to walk barefoot, sing songs and sit on her front porch. Among Mom's many legacies she has left to us, her nine children, and all that knew and loved her, is her example of deep faith and trust in our Lord, as well as her strength of character, values, morals and above all, love. Although Mom is now just beginning a new life in Heaven, we will carry on that legacy to our own children and all we come in contact with. We will spread a little bit of her uniqueness throughout all of our lives, as a lasting tribute to her. She is already deeply missed. Visitation will be held on Monday, June 1, 2009, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. with a rosary following at ST. LUKE'S CATHOLIC CHURCH in Plain. A mass of christian burial will be held on Tuesday, June 2, 2009, at 11 a.m. with Father Mike Resop officiating; preceded by visitation from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass at the church.

She was born on March 8, 1920, in Sauk County, Wisconsin, to John and Margaret (Schutz) Ederer. Florence married Harlan (Chunk) Sprecher on December 30, 1940. They lived, worked, laughed, and loved together for almost 65 years, farming for more than 50 of those years. She was a proud member of St. John’s Catholic Church, Spring Green. Florence’s pride and joy was her family, as anyone who visited her could see from the multitude of pictures on her walls! Together, she and Harlan raised ten children on several farms in the Spring Green area. Some of her sons continue working those farms today. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren always referred to her as ‘Gram,’ and Harlan was ‘Pop.’ When you made a visit to Gram and Pop’s home, you never left without having a meal or sweet treat. Gram loved to garden, cook, and bake. Harlan and Florence took great pride in their vegetable garden; her grandchildren have fond memories of snipping beans (and sneaking some to eat) with her. Gram and Pop’s food cellar contained many quarts of tomato juice, dill pickles, sauerkraut, and various canned fruits. Her baking specialties were raised donuts fried in lard, homemade cinnamon rolls, Christmas cookies, apple pies, and angel food cakes. She often had “help” in the kitchen from the younger members of the family! The grandkids also loved having sleepovers at Gram and Pop’s house, which always included having strawberries and milk with her homemade bread at breakfast. Euchre has been a solid Ederer/Sprecher family tradition since the beginning of time, and Gram was the best: If you played against her – it didn’t matter who her partner was – you were going to lose. Florence’s faith was also very important to her. You could often find her in her chair holding her rosary and praying. Christmas has always been a major holiday for the Sprechers; every year, Gram went all-out to decorate the house, complete with not just one but TWO trees, at least one Holy Family display, yards of tinsel, and a myriad of ornaments, many of which are now extraordinary antiques. Naturally, there were the aforementioned cakes, pies, cookies, and doughnuts in abundance! Gram would also prepare goodie bags for the grands and great-grands and organize a visit from Santa. Loretta was a member of St. Luke's Catholic Church in Plain and the National Council of Catholic Women.

Harlan was born on top of a big hill in the township of Troy on April 7, 1917, the son of Ethel (Strait) and Arthur Sprecher.On Dec. 30, 1940, he married Florence (Ederer) Sprecher.They would have celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary Thursday. Harlan, Florence, and their family have been farming on the prairie for well over 50 years. Harlan started out with very little, but by the time he retired from farming he had produced several very successful farms which are all presently run by his sons. Harlan retired from farming in 1980 but continued to assist his sons until he was 85. In 1952, Harlan purchased an International Super M tractor, which was handed down to his first born grandson."The Super" is still in use today. Harlan and Florence took great pride in their vegetable garden. Harlan maintained a 60-year family tradition of growing and then putting up the bounteous fruits of their labor.Their food cellar contained many quarts of tomato juice, dill pickles, sauerkraut, stewed tomatoes, cherries, and peaches. Harlan was a long-time member of St. John's Evangelist Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus. Harlan served as Spring Green town chairman for 26 years and a Sauk County supervisor for 26 years. Harlan was an insurance agent for Franklin Farmers Insurance for 30 years. He was a land surveyor for Sauk County for many years as well. Harlan received the Spring Green Chamber of Commerce award in 1980 and was a member of the Sauk County Board of Adjustments for 20 years. He was very dedicated to the Spring Green Community. Harlan J. Sprecher died on 28 December 2004 at Spring Green, Sauk, Wisconsin, at age 87 Harlan Sprecher, age 87, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2004, at Greenway Manor in Spring Green. Harlan was born on top of a big hill in the township of Troy on April 7, 1917, the son of Ethel (Strait) and Arthur Sprecher.On Dec. 30, 1940, he married Florence (Ederer) Sprecher.They would have celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary Thursday. Harlan, Florence, and their family have been farming on the prairie for well over 50 years. Harlan started out with very little, but by the time he retired from farming he had produced several very successful farms which are all presently run by his sons. Harlan retired from farming in 1980 but continued to assist his sons until he was 85. In 1952, Harlan purchased an International Super M tractor, which was handed down to his first born grandson."The Super" is still in use today. Harlan and Florence took great pride in their vegetable garden. Harlan maintained a 60-year family tradition of growing and then putting up the bounteous fruits of their labor.Their food cellar contained many quarts of tomato juice, dill pickles, sauerkraut, stewed tomatoes, cherries, and peaches. Harlan was a long-time member of St. John's Evangelist Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus. Harlan served as Spring Green town chairman for 26 years and a Sauk County supervisor for 26 years. Harlan was an insurance agent for Franklin Farmers Insurance for 30 years. He was a land surveyor for Sauk County for many years as well. Harlan received the Spring Green Chamber of Commerce award in 1980 and was a member of the Sauk County Board of Adjustments for 20 years. He was very dedicated to the Spring Green Community. Harlan was survived by his loving wife, Florence, of Spring Green; nine children: John (Joanne) Sprecher, Arena; Jim (Caryl) Sprecher, Jerry (Peg) Sprecher, Jerome (friend, Teresa Breuer) Sprecher, Jeff (Joan) Sprecher, all of Spring Green; Jannie (Gary) Wille, Oregon; Joannie (Tim) Harrington, Arena; Jeanette (Jeff) Pharo, Madison; Joyce (Herb) Portz, Spring Green; 19 grandchildren: Jacky (Bob), Joette (Brad), Janelle (Terry), David, Joni, Marty (Melissa), Cheri (Tim), Freeman (Shannon), Jamie (Jennifer), Michelle (Jeff), Jason, Bradley, Stephanie, Amery, Alex, Justin, Jarad, Marcus, and Eric; 12 great-grandchildren: Travis, Trevor, Jordan, Ashlyn, Cody, Cailee, Alexandra, Brady, Sidney, Talena, Corinna, and Joshua; seven step-grandchildren: Craig, Jim, Tammy, Bridget, Tammy, Heather, & Jenny; eight step-great-grandchildren: Taylor, Melanie, Zachary, Alex, Nicholas, Emma, McKenzie and Matthew; one aunt: Frieda Schroeder; four brothers: Ervin (Lorene), Marvin (Fern), Walter (Beulah), and Milton (friend Virginia) Sprecher; three sisters: Arline Pace, Lorna (Wayne) Anderson, Lorene (friend Harland) Erickson, three sisters-in-law: Kathleen (Jerry) Meise, Caroline Ederer, Loretta Scholl; one brother-in-law, Charlie (Lucy) Ederer and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one child: Juliene (Garnet) Nelson, Canada; a daughter-in-law: Vicki Sprecher; one brother: Orville Sprecher; two sisters-in-law: Molly and Shirley Sprecher; and three brothers-in-law: Leo Ederer, Alfred Ederer, and Leo Scholl. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2005, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Spring Green. Father Mike Resop will preside. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call on Monday from 4-8 p.m. and again on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of Mass all at the church in Spring Green. Richardson-Stafford Funeral Home, Spring Green is in charge of the arrangements. Harlan was very proud of his children, grandchildren, and great-children.Harlan will be greatly missed by all.
