The family requests memorials of remembrance be made to the Reedsburg Senior Life Center in lieu of flowers.

He battled a lengthy illness with grace, courage, and strength. Bob was born on June 20, 1924, in the Township of Excelsior, the son of Albert and Faye (O'Connor) Vogel.

He grew up in the Reedsburg area and graduated from Reedsburg High School. He proudly served his country in the Army in the Pacific Theater during World War II. On June 20, 1947, he was united in marriage to Shirley Shore, his wife of 58 years. Bob retired in 1988 from Hankscraft-Gerber as a purchasing agent for 29 years.

He was a member of the Reedsburg United Methodist Church, and a lifelong member of the Reedsburg V.F.W. Post 1916. Bob loved golfing, gardening, woodworking, traveling, and barbecuing on the deck. He enjoyed spending winters in Arizona, following Cactus League baseball, and the Brewers. He was a Packers and Badgers fan. Bob loved his family and enjoyed the time he spent with family and friends.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother-in-law, Donald Devore.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Vogel of Reedsburg; children, Rick (Debbie) Vogel of LaCrosse, Mark Vogel of Waukesha, and Scott (Reen) Vogel of Lexington, Kentucky; grandchildren, Rick (Peggy) Vogel of Onalaska, and their children, Ben and Alex, Bill (Sara) Vogel of Holmen, and their children, Isabel and Sam, Bob (Kris) Vogel of Andover, Minn., and their children, Donovan and Cole, Tom Vogel of Stoddard, and his children, Collin and Savanah, Katie and Molly Vogel of Lexington, Kentucky; brothers, Fred (Lorraine) Vogel of Reedsburg, James (Betty) Vogel of Chetek, and Henry (Carol) Vogel of Chetek; a sister, Eola (Bob) Crawford of Rock Springs; sister-in-law, Eileen Devore of Viola; aunts, nieces, nephews, along with other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, March 20, 2006, at the UNITED METHODIST CHURCH in Reedsburg, with Pastor David Farina officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the Reedsburg V.F.W. Post 1916.

She was born in Reedsburg, Wis. on June 17, 1926, to John and Emilie (Hasse) Backman. She graduated from Reedsburg High School in 1944. She married Fred Albert Vogel on June 16, 1945 in Reedsburg. She was a full-time homemaker most of her life. She also worked at the Badger Ordinance Powder Plant, Almet, Inc., and also as a cook at the Dells Oasis Restaurant. She, along with her husband, owned and operated a restaurant, the Railroad Inn, in North Freedom for a few years. They moved back to Reedsburg. In 1984, they moved to Lyndon Station, Wisconsin, with her daughter Emilie and son-in-law until 1995 when they moved to Mauston, Wis. They resided there until 2001 and moved back to Reedsburg to live with her daughter, Emilie and her family, where she resided until her death. Lorraine enjoyed crocheting afghans for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and also enjoyed needlework. Lorraine also visited numerous states, as well as Canada and Mexico. She also enjoyed camping. Lorraine and Fred also spent some weekends and vacations in Hayward, Wis., where they owned a cottage on Lake Nelson. Survivors include her 11 children: Karen Vogel, of Wauwatosa; Aurella (Marv) Gurgel, of Rock Springs; Carl (Brenda) Vogel, of Reedsburg; Debra (Rollie) Peetz, of North Freedom; John Vogel, of Reedsburg; Eunice (Bryon) Lonetree, of Middleton; Andrew (Linda) Vogel, of Appleton; David (Cat) Vogel, of Northwood, Iowa; Gale (Linda) Vogel, of Portage; Emilie (Larry) Miller, of Reedsburg; and Dot (Ed) Poff, of Mauston; her daughter-in-law: Kathy Vogel, of Ironton; 15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 8 step-grandchildren; 11 step-great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. She is further survived by 1 brother: Gerald Backman of Caledonia, Minn; 1 aunt: Margy (Otto) Hasse, of Loganville; 2 brothers-in-law; James and Henry Vogel; 2 sisters-in-law: Eola Crawford and Shirley Vogel, many nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Lorraine was preceded in death by her husband, Fred; her son: Don Vogel; her parents; 3 brothers: Marvin, Roger and John Backman; one sister, Doris (Phil) Bailey, 2 sisters-in-law; 2 brothers-in-law; an infant granddaughter: Rebecca Vogel; and a great-granddaughter, Ava Vogel. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, February 20, 2012 at St. Peter's Ev. Lutheran Church in Reedsburg with Pastor Paul Crolius officiating. Interment will follow in St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery. There will be a visitation from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Sunday at the Hoof Funeral Home in Reedsburg and from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service on Monday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials would be appreciated to the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association, the American Diabetes Association or to St. Peter's Lutheran Church or School. The Hoof Funeral Home is serving the family.
