Birth26 September 1951Gary Francis Meyer was born on 26 September 1951.
He was the son of Gerhardt W. Meyer and Zita E. Soltwedel.
Death21 November 2019Gary Francis Meyer died on 21 November 2019 at age 68 On a beautiful fall day, September 26,1951, Gary Francis Meyer was born to Zita (Soltwedel) Meyer and Gerhardt Meyer. He was the second son and the fourth child to join this wonderful family.

Gary and his siblings lived on the Meyer Homestead near Hill Point, Wisconsin. His childhood was filled with many family activities and farm responsibilities. He was an intelligent, curious and adventurous child. Gary was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Loganville.

Gary graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with an Electrical Engineering Degree. He was President of the Kappa Eta Kappa Fraternity in 1975.

Allen Bradley in Milwaukee was the first company where Gary was employed. This job took him to Richmond, Virginia where he lived most of his life. His professional career involved travel that would take him all over the United States and included some time working in Germany.

Gary traveled back to his “Wisconsin Roots” for family festivities several times during a year. He was the creative genius behind the “THEMES” for the gatherings. Gary would write parodies of popular songs for the family to sing. Garth Brook’s “I’ve got friends in low places” became “I’ve got friends in Loganville Places. Neil Diamond’s “Sweet Caroline” became “Sweet Grandma of Mine” and was dedicated to his Mother Zita. And for his twelve nieces and nephews, Ricky Martin’s “Mambo #5” became “Uncle #12”. In addition to planning family festivities, Gary would produce videos and record the antics on DVDs so we could enjoy them for years to come. We were so very blessed with his never ending humor and creative ability. He will always be our “Silly Uncle Gary”.

Upon retirement, Gary moved to Wilmington, North Carolina. He loved the Wrightsville Beach area and had completed a screenplay about The Lumina Pavilion. In the 1930s and 1940s, the area was a very popular beach resort that featured big band music and shag dancing. Sadly, he passed on November 21, 2019, before realizing his dream of a film to memorialize that time in Wilmington's history. All of the research material on Lumina was donated to the Wrightsville Beach Museum where it is on display .

Gary inherited his love of dance from his parents and incorporated this activity into his life in many ways. In addition to being everyone’s favorite dance partner; he was a disc jockey, a dance instructor, and partnered in organizing dance soirees featuring shag music.

Gary has now made his final trip back to his Wisconsin home.

Waiting for him in heaven are his parents and sister Sharon (Meyer) Thieding.

His legacy of living life to the fullest will be carried on by his siblings and their families:

Ernie Thieding, Gerald (Karen) Meyer, Julaine Meyer, Richard (Sandra) Meyer and Bonnie (Brian) Hauke; and his 12 nieces and nephews: Darren, Dawn, Kristin, Kurt, Mary, Jon, Tina, Tracy, Emily, Rebecca, Brittney and Brianna.
