Butler County Farmer Shot to Death in his Home---
Frank Pennypacker was Instantly killed while making an attack on Arthur Overstreet-
Two Witnesses of the Shooting
A fatal shooting affair occurred last night on a farm near Leon, Butler County. as a result of it Frank Pennypacker, a prosperous farmer is dead, and his hired man Arthur overstreet, is in the custody of the sheriff.
The two men had quarreled early in the evening. It is said Pennypacker had been drinking and was abusive. he ordered his employee together with two other hired men to go to bed. Overstreet objected to this and Pennypacker rushed at him with an unlifted chair. Overstreet warned his employer not to strike him but the reply was a vicious blow over the head with the chair. This was repeated several times, overstreet all the time trying to get into his room and close the door. he was followed so closely however that he finally seized a loaded shotgun and fired one barrel into the breast of the enraged Pennypacker. Death followed instantly.
Overstreet is about twenty-six years old and was born and raised in butler county. he bears a good reputation. Pennypacker had resided near Leon about twenty-five years. With the single exception of inebriety he was of good habits. Overstreet at once gave himself up to Constable Blakeman who today turned him over to the Sheriff of Butler County. He was taken to the jail in Eldorado. Pennypacker leaves a widow.

They moved to California in 1955 and he later retired as a machinist for the "Skunk Works," Stealth Plane division of Lockheed Aircraft in California. His first thought was to return to his home in Sedalia. Golfing was his passion joining friends at the Sedalia Country Club for many tournaments even getting a occasional hole-in-one. To continue his skills he began making golf clubs in his workshop. Fellow golfers from all around would have him make clubs, even traveling as far away as Alaska. He would ship them all across the United States. Lyman will be greatly missed. Besides his wife he is survived by one daughter; Sharon Stitt and her husband Dale of Lake Havasu City, Arizona, one sister; Helen Findley of Sedalia, three granddaughters: Kelly Thomas and her husband Dennis of Pine Village, Indiana; April Miller of San Pedro, California; Dawn Brooks of Torrance, California, three great granddaughters: Amanda, Katelynn, Samantha, one great grandson: Gregory, numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded by five sisters and three brothers. Funeral services will be at 10:30 A.M. Friday July 23, 2010 at Ewing-Schutte-Semler Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Donald J. Allcorn officiating. Burial will be in the Memorial Park Mausoleum. Visitation will be on Thursday, July 22, 2010 from 7:00 until 8:30PM in the funeral home chapel. There will be full military honors by V.F.W. Post 2591 of Sedalia. Memorials may be given to the American Diabetes Association in care of the funeral home.
