Charles was born in Milbank, SD, on August 31, 1913, to Elizabeth (Lee) and Francis Croal. He served in the US Army in World War II as an aircraft mechanic in the North African and European theaters. He married Virginia Festler of Northfield, MN, on July 26, 1946. They were members of Fargo’s Roman Catholic Holy Spirit Parish from its beginning and until his death he lived in the home they built on 7th St. N. in the late 40s. Mr. Croal was retired from Ulteig Engineering after many years as a civil engineer with that firm. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed the outdoors and time at the family cabin near Park Rapids, MN.

He was preceded in death by his wife, and is survived by his three sons, Francis A. “Frank” Croal of Battle Mountain, NV, Charles J. (Martha) Croal of Sunriver, OR, James P. “Pat” (Kitty) Croal of Fargo and by three grandchildren, Meghan V. Croal of Palmyra, VA, Devlin Croal of Portland, OR and McKinley Croal of Bend, OR.

She was a granddaughter of an early day flour miller in Fillmore County and the daughter of a pioneer resident of Ortonville, Minn., and Milbank, S.D. Miss Kaercher lived at 1168 Hague Av., St. Paul. She became the guardian, in 1939, of three children of a late twin sister. They are Jo'an Marie Hennen, Ottunwa, Iowa; Edward D. Hagle, Cushman, Ore., and James A. Hagle, St. Paul. Other survivors include Zita Kaercher; triplet sisters, Mrs. Neil E. Yaeger and Mrs. Paul R. Sanzone, Minneapolis, and Mrs. T.V. Bernard, Lake Elmo; and a brother, Leonard M. Kaercher, Minneapolis. Funeral services will be Thursday evening and Friday morning in Milbank.1

Croal, 54, was owner-operator of Croal's Rexall Drug in Barstow.

A native of Las Vegas, Nevada, Croal had lived in the desert since 1938 and in California since1933. Graduating from the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, in 1937, Croal worked as a pharmacist for White and Platt's Drug Store for eight years. He became a partner in the drugstore with Eugene White after the death of Nowe Platt in 1940, and since 1946 has operated his own drug store in Barstow.

Active and well-known throughout the community, Croal was a member of Fray Garces Council, Knights of Columbus; St. Joseph's Catholic Church; Charter member Elks Lodge, 1920, Barstow; past member of the Barstow Rotary Gold Club, Lenwood; Apple Valley Gold Club; SO Alumni Association, and was a member of the San Bernardino County Pharmaceutical Association.

He is survived by the widow, Ynez, of the family home, 1133 E Williams Street; a son, Sgt Thomas L Croal, serving with the US Air Force at Castle AFB, Merced, one daughter, Kristine, of Barstow, and his mother, Mrs T B Croal of Las Vegas, Nevada.

Mass will be celebrated Tuesday at 9 am in St Joseph's Catholic Church, with the Rev Charles P Young officiating.

Burial will be held in Mt View Cemetery, Barstow.1

Klemme, 73, of Hemet, Calif., died Saturday, Oct. 19, 1994 at a nursing home in Hemet, after a long illness. Arrangements are pending and inurnment will be at a later date in Akron. Vernon H. Klemme was born May 16, 1921, in Portland township, Akron, the son of Anna (Schmidt) and Harry A. Klemme. He was confirmed at IMM Lutheran church In Akron, and was associated with the Pentecostal church in Calif. He grew up and lived in the Akron-Chatsworth area until his marriage to Margaret Holland. They moved to Sioux City, where he owned and operated Klemme Window and Insulation Co. and Quality Trailer Sales, until the late 1950s. They moved to Calif. where he worked with a trailer sales and repair service, and built spas and hot tubs. He married Ann Colton and they resided in the Hemet area.

Survivors include his wife Ann; a son David; two stepchildren; a brother Embert, and a sister, Mrs. Geo. (Ella) Willer both of Akron; and five grandchildren. His former wife, Margaret resides in Garden City, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Mrs. Lenora Hanson Dirks of Hawarden, and Mrs. Ted (Wilma) Willer of Akron.

He had been injured with shrapnel during world war 2 in Germany. He was taken to the hospital by Luken's ambulance. Mr. Klemme was born September 12, 1922 at Akron, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Fred Klemme. He was married to Marjorie McHale on June 20, 1947. Mr. Klemme had farmed on the home place from 1948 to 1956 when he moved to Brunsville.

During world war two he had been awarded the purple heart while serving with the army in Germany. He attended school in Preston township and was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Preston township Lutheran church with Rev. Theo Meyer as pastor. He entered the armed-service on July 9, 1942.

Funeral services are tentatively set for Thursday at the St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Brunsville, where he was a member.

Survivors include his widow; a daughter, Kriste Lee; five brothers, Alvin, LeMars; Leonard, Akron; Norman, Akron; Lowell, Merrill; Harvey, Akron; a sister, Mrs. Irene (Claus) Kruse, LeMars.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Bernard.

Lowell L. Klemme was born June 23, 1927 on a farm in Preston Township, rural Plymouth County, Iowa, the son of Fred and Etta (Tapper) Klemme. Lowell was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church, Preston Township. He attended country school in Preston Township and later high school in Le Mars where he graduated from Le Mars Central in 1945.

He enlisted in the United States Army on September 18, 1946. He served his country during WWII. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to the Le Mars area.

He was united in marriage to Vivian Osweiler on April 18, 1949 at the St. James Catholic Church Rectory. Lowell and Vivian moved to Thor, Iowa; where he operated the Standard Oil Tank Service. While in Thor, they were blessed with a son, Rodney. In June of 1955, Vivian and Lowell moved to Merrill where he was transferred as the Standard Oil Agent. While living in Merrill, the family was again blessed with the births of Julie, Barb, and Robin. Lowell worked with Standard Oil for over 25 years until he sold his business to Plymouth Coop in the 1980’s. Lowell worked for the United States Postal Service for over 26 years, working 16 years as a substitute mail carrier and the last 10 years as a fulltime carrier. Lowell also sold real estate in Le Mars and Merrill for over 21 years. He also worked for 15 years mowing at the Le Mars Municipal Golf Course. Lowell worked as a funeral assistant for Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars for several years, retiring in June of 2007 so he could take care of his wife. Vivian passed away December 8, 2014.

Lowell was a former member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Merrill where he held several officer positions. After moving to Le Mars in 1993, he became a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Le Mars where he ushered for many years. He was a member of the Oleson-Halweg American Post 125 in Merrill and the WWII Last Man Standing Club in Le Mars. He was also a longtime member of the Le Mars Lion’s Club and former Le Mars Elks Club. He served on the Thor Fire Department for 5 years and for the Merrill Fire Department for 30 years. He served one term on the Le Mars Community School Board. Lowell loved to tell stories and jokes and visiting with people. Lowell and Vivian enjoyed traveling in the United States and abroad, dancing, golfing, playing in many card clubs in Le Mars and Merrill. He also enjoyed playing pitch with the guys at the Legion in Le Mars and bowling for many years in league. Lowell and Vivian enjoyed attending all of their grandchildren’s activities as much as possible.

Survivors include a son: Rodney (Mary) Klemme of Menomonee Falls, WI and their children, Scott (Megan) Klemme and their daughter, Ella Ray of Carlsbad, CA, and Katy (Shane) Bechler of Menlo Park, CA; a daughter: Julie (Doug) Schultz of Le Mars, IA, and their children, Brian (Shauna) Schultz of Le Mars and their children, Grayson and Kendall, Steve (Mallori) Schultz of Sioux Falls, SD and their children, Gunner and Scarlett, and Tyler Schultz of Le Mars; a daughter: Barbara Klemme (Tim Stroehlein) of Littleton, CO and her children, Travis Pederson of Bozeman, MT and Alysha Pederson of Broomfield, CO; a son: Robin (Rhonda) Klemme of Merrill, IA and their children, Trent (Virginia) Hanner of Oyens, IA and their children, Riley and Raiden, Jacob (Samantha) Lehmann of Sioux Falls, SD and their children, Talan, Grace, and Knox, and Ryan (Rachel) Lehmann of Sioux Falls, SD; two sisters in law: Betty Klemme of Akron, IA and Caroline Grabowksi of Titusville, FL; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Vivian; his sister: Irene Kruse; and 6 brothers: Benny in infancy, Arnold, Norman, Alvin, Leonard, and Harvey.

Harvey Roger Klemme was born June 8, 1928 on the family farm near Akron, Iowa, the son of Fred and Etta (Tapper) Klemme. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church – Preston Township. He attended country school in Plymouth County and later high school in Le Mars.

He was united in marriage to Betty Morehead on June 12, 1948 at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Early on, they lived in Le Mars until moving to a farm near Akron in mid 1950’s where Harvey farmed. In 1963, they moved to Akron. Harvey worked for various agriculture businesses in Akron, including the Brodie Implement and the Farmers Coop. He also owned and operated Akron Feed and Grain for several years. Harvey also enjoyed trucking; he hauled grain for area farmers until he retired at the age of 84. Harvey also managed the Akron Golf Course for many years.

Harvey was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Akron, having help usher and served on church council. Through the years, Harvey enjoyed golfing, bowling, fishing, and playing cards. He also enjoyed going for coffee with his buddies in Akron. But most of all, he loved the times spent with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife of over 67 years, Betty of Akron; a daughter: Angela Hansen of Austin, MN; two sons: David (Sharon) Klemme of Akron and Scott (Stephani) Klemme of Akron; 6 grandchildren: Troy Hansen of Minneapolis, MN, Derek (Missy) Hansen of Austin, MN, Dustin (Melinda) Appley of Akron, Paul Klemme of Akron, Brooke (Tom) Huls of Akron, and Traci (Mitch) DeRocher of Akron; 15 great-grandchildren; a brother: Lowell Klemme of Le Mars, IA; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons in infancy; twin granddaughters: Jodi and Jennifer Klemme; a son in law: Dan Hansen; his sister: Irene Kruse; and 5 brothers: Benny in infancy, Arnold Klemme, Norman Klemme, Alvin Klemme, and Leonard Klemme.
