She was born on November 19, 1911, in Alsen, SD to Harold & Theodosia (Spensley) Peterson. She attended Cleveland rural school and graduated from Vermillion High School in 1929. After high school, she worked in her father’s general store in Alsen, and then worked part-time for A.B. and E. Telephone Company. On December 6, 1940, she was united in marriage to Edward Ekren, and they moved to Elk Point in January 1941 when he became a sheriff.

She was a member of the Woman’s Wednesday Club, A.L.C.W., and Immanuel Lutheran Church.

She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. W.J. (Sheryl) Bevan of Indianapolis, IN; one granddaughter, Danielle Marie; two brothers, Donald of Overland Park, Kansas, and Keith of Lubbock, Texas; two sisters, Mrs. Theodore (Iona) Dilley of Irene and Mrs. Les (Lorraine) Zeller of Vermillion, SD; several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to Immanuel Lutheran Church Building Fund of Elk Point, SD.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Edward, one son, Daryl Edward Ekren, and one brother, Elwin Peterson.

Anderson-Siecke Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
