She was a member of First United Church of Christ, First United Church of Christ Marie Circle, Jolly 16 Homemakers, Royal Neighbors of America and the Sauk Prairie Memorial Hospital Auxillary. Survivors include two children, Kathryn (John) McCarthy of Madison and Alan (Maureen) Sherwood of Milwaukee; four grandchildren, Christopher (Kylie) McCarthy, Emily McCarthy, Mackenzie and Lia Sherwood; three brothers, Kermit (Dorothy) Peterson of Madison, LaVerne (Carol) Peterson of Mount Horeb and Vernon Peterson of Mount Horeb; other relatives; and friends. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Edmund Stanley Sherwood; sisters, Adeline Amble, Mavis Blum, Clarice Hessel and Doreen Thompson; brothers, Clayton and Ralph Peterson. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 24, 2006, at FIRST UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST in Sauk City, with Pastor Bill Kapp officiating. Friends may call on Thursday evening from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at HOOVERSON FUNERAL HOME and on Friday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.

Mavis lived in Cross Plains for 37 years where she was a member of St. Martin's Lutheran Church, St. Martin's Women's Auxiliary and the Cross Plains American Legion Post No. 245. Mavis is survived by her children, Clifford (Marcia) Blum of Austin, Texas, Linda (Dan) Seay of Rock Hill, S.C., Edward (Barbara) Blum of Ridgeway, and Jane (Robert) Cook, of Edgerton; 10 grandchildren; seven great- grandchildren; two sisters, Bernadine Sherwood of Sauk City, and Donna (Ernest) Wampfler of Washington, Iowa; three brothers, La Vern (Carol) and Vernon, both of Mount Horeb, and Kermit (Dorothy) of Madison; and two brothers-in-law, Harold Hessel of Jefferson, and Doug Thompson of Madison. In addition to her husband, Lawrence, she was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, Adeline Amble, Clarice Hessel and Doreen Thompson; and two brothers, Ralph and Clayton. Funeral services will be held at ST. MARTIN'S LUTHERAN CHURCH, 2417 Church St., Cross Plains, at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 3, 2005, with Nicole Espe presiding. Burial will be in St. Martin's Lutheran Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2005 at the GUNDERSON CROSS PLAINS FUNERAL HOME, 2421 Church St., Cross Plains. He was born in Iowa County on Nov. 23, 1947, the son of the late Carl and Adeline (Peterson) Amble. After graduating from River Valley High School in 1965, he was employed by University Hospital in the pharmacy department. Lolly enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and spent four years serving his country during the Vietnam War, where he left with the rank of sergeant. In 1973, he moved to the Green Bay area and dedicated the next 31 years of his life working in the material management department at Bellin Hospital. Lolly was a special person to everyone who knew him, and a favorite uncle to all his nieces and nephews. He is survived by seven brothers, Roger (Ellen) Amble of Arena, John (Judy) Amble of Arena, Charles (Judy) Amble of Mazomanie, Richard (friend, Marion) Amble of Barneveld, Kenneth (Roxanne) Amble of Arena, Gary (Phyllis) Amble of Arena and Les (Trisha) Amble of Mazomanie; two sisters, Lorraine (Gerald) Ihm of Barneveld and Sharon (Laverne) Marten of Black Earth; special friends, Dick Esser and Roger Vandenack; as well as a large circle of special co-workers and friends at Bellin Hospital. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister and brother-in-law, Christine and Richard Broadwell; and a sister, Marsha Amble. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 1, 2004, at HOOVERSON FUNERAL HOME, Mazomanie. Interment, with military graveside rites conducted by Ewing-Olson V.F.W. Post No. 9336, will take place at a later date in the Arena Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 31, 2004, and also on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Lolly had a heart of gold, and he will be sadly missed by all friends and family.
