Lee was born to Irvin and Susan (McPhillips) Marklein in Clyde, Wis., on Sept. 23, 1933. He gained a lifelong work ethic growing up on the family farm, was schooled at the local one-room schoolhouse, graduated from Lone Rock High School, and completed UW-Madison's Farming Short Course.

He married his one true love, Marcelyn Liegel, of Plain, Wis., on June 16, 1954. After briefly living in Spring Green and Fort Atkinson, they settled in Janesville in 1958. Lee and his brother Don built their first home in 1959 while working nights at GM. A few years later, they left GM and created Marklein Builders Inc. Together, they built thousands of homes and developed subdivisions in Janesville, Delavan, and Lake Redstone. They acquired M & M Concrete and Sig Olson Flooring.

Lee never completely retired but spent more time caring for Marcy who passed away at home on July 11, 2010. Lee and Marcy enjoyed traveling when work allowed. They sailed on the Queen Elizabeth, flew on the Concorde, snowbirded in Gulf Shores, Ala., and travelled to many racetracks to cheer on his idol, the Intimidator #3, Dale Earnhardt. Lee's last big trip was to Japan to visit his grandson, Kristopher, who was studying abroad.

Lee is survived by five children: his sons, Douglas (Jean) and their daughters, Erin (Benjamin) Kollenbroich and Caitlin (Steven) Nelson, and Robert (Jane) and their daughters, Elizabeth (Brett Saternus), Alison and Laura; his daughters, Mary Beth (Peter Kunkel), Kelly (Kevin) Strebe and their sons, Kristopher and Kurtis, and Kristine Marklein. He was a proud great-grandfather to Owen and Clara Saternus and Madeleine and Harriet Kollenbroich. He was a loyal brother to Philip (Rita), Donald (Carol) and Susan (Phillip) McCarville. He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Marlene (James) Marklein; ten brothers/sisters-in law; and countless nieces and nephews.

Lee was preceded in death by his loving wife, Marcy; his parents and Bess; brothers, James, Robert, and William; sisters, Margaret and Catherine; and many other family members, employees, and friends.

Marcy and Lee Marklein were married on June 16, 1954, at St Luke's Catholic Church in Plain, WI. After living in Spring Green and Fort Atkinson, they settled in Janesville in 1958, where they raised five children: Douglas (Jean) of Janesville, Robert (Jane) of Cincinnati, OH, Mary Beth (Peter Kunkel) of Herndon, VA, Kelly (Kevin) Strebe of Janesville, and Kris of Janesville. Marcy was a wonderful "Gramma" to seven grandchildren: Elizabeth, Erin, Caitlin, Alison, Kristopher, Laura, and Kurtis.
Marcy was a member of St. Mary's church since moving to Janesville. Marcy worked for many years as an interior decorator. Marcy enjoyed gardening, travel, and all things creative. She was fond of the outdoors and spending time at Rotary Gardens. Marcy loved being a part of L'Atelier art club and took art lessons until her illness made this no longer possible. Marcy made lifelong friends with the Eastside homemakers and her card club, ladies that she had known for close to 50 years. She took part in her children's activities as they grew, teaching CCD, chairing Hot Dog Day at Monroe School, being a Cub Scout den mother, and leading Girl Scouts and 4-H groups. Most of all, Marcy loved her family and spending time with her husband, children, and grandchildren. She was so proud of each of them. She is survived by Lee, her devoted husband of over 56 years; her children and grandchildren; brothers and sisters: Loraine Urbanek of Ft. Death15 June 2004Leona E. Jasper died on 15 June 2004 at age 90 Leona E. Jasper Soeldner, age 90, a resident of St. Mary's Home, Manitowoc, died on Tuesday, June 15, 2004, at the home. Leona was born on Jan. 17, 1914, in Cazenovia, daughter of the late Arnold and Sophia Braun Jasper. On Oct. 25, 1938, she married Lawrence A. Soeldner at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Cazenovia. The couple moved to Manitowoc in 1938. He preceded her in death on May 15, 1991. Leona was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, the Parish Women and Manitowoc Senior Center. Survivors include three sons and a daughter-in-law, Leon Soeldner of Manitowoc, Donald and Janice Soeldner of Orlando, Fla., and Vern Soeldner of Eau Claire; eight grandchildren, David of Glendale, Amy of Atlanta, Ga., Julie (Scott) Bernier of Boston, Mass., Daniel (Tanya) Soeldner of Green Bay, and their son and Leona's great-grandson, Ryan, Suzanne (Christian) Barrock of Kohler, Michael of Miami, Fla., Sarah (John Peter) Trask of Milwaukee, and Rebecca of Milwaukee; a brother and sister-in-law, Rinold and Alice Jasper of Richland Center; and a brother-in-law, George Soeldner of Plain. Also surviving two sisters-in-law, Catherine Wiedenfeld of Richalnd Center, and Agnes Olson of Spring Green; nieces; nephews; other relatives; and friends. She was also preceded in death by numerous sisters and brothers; and a twin son. The family will greet relatives and friends at ST. MARY'S HOME CHAPEL, Manitowoc, from 9 a.m. until the time of Mass at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 26, 2004. A memorial service will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, at ST. MARY'S HOME CHAPEL, Manitowoc. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. Tom Wojciechowski, O.F.M. Cremation has taken place with burial at Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Support Group, the Humane Society or the charity of the donor's choice in Leona's name. The Pfeffer Funeral Home & Cremation Care Center, Manitowoc, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements. Our heartfelt thanks to the entire staff of St. Mary's Alzheimer's Unit; your love and compassion will never be forgotten.
