He was born on June 26, 1925, in Potosi, the son of Albert and Emma (Kreiser) Duve Sr. Al was a World War II Air Force Veteran and a 1949 graduate of UW-Madison. On Sept. 10, 1949, he was united in holy matrimony with Janice Pluemer at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Tennyson. Together they raised three adopted children. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, The Eagles, and the American Legion. He had his own insurance company and tax return service. He was Executive Director of Prairie Federal Savings and Loan which became Anchor Bank, from which he retired as Regional Vice President in 1992. He continued his charitable activities with the Blackhawk Apartments, Father Paul Fagan of Tanzania, and St. John's Parish. One of Al's favorite pastimes was fishing with his two buddies, Arnie and Father Paul. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and a loyal friend. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Janice Duve of Prairie du Chien; a son, Thomas (Jill) Duve of Baton Rouge, La; two daughters, Theresa (Matthew) Langreck of Holmen, Wis. and Jean Ann (Michael) Berghammer of Janesville; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Bernard (Dorothy) Duve of Sun City, Ariz; and a sister, Elizabeth "Betty" O'Connor of Glen View, Ill. He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters; and three brothers. A Mass of Christian burial and a celebration of Al's life will be held on Thursday, June 26, 2008, the day of his birth, at 11 a.m. at ST. JOHN'S CATHOLIC CHURCH in Prairie du Chien, with Father James Warosh S.J. officiating. Burial in the Calvary Cemetery in Prairie du Chien with military rites accorded. Family and friends may call on Wednesday, June 25, 2008, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the GARRITY FUNERAL HOME in Prairie du Chien, with a Rosary service at 4:15 p.m., an Eagles tribute at 7 p.m. and Wake Scripture Services at 7:30 p.m. Military Honors will be accorded by the Prairie du Chien Honor Guard.

Isaac Wilmott was a lead miner and arrived in Potosi in 1833. His brother John Wilmot arrived in 1859. Isaac Wilmot married Mary Ann Auberle, widow of Francois Nicholas. The Auberles and Nicholas families settled in Lord Selkirk's Colonly in the Red River Valley of Manitoba - near Winnipeg. The Red River Valley experienced terrible floods in 1824-1825 and many of the Frech-Swiss immigrants moved to northern Illinois and southwest Wisconsin.
