He was born in Reedsburg, on March 6, 1953, the son of the late Howard and Arlene (Wollschlager) Grote. Mark graduated from Reedsburg High School with honors in 1971. Mark took a leadership role in everything he did. His High School career included lead rolls in all the theatrical productions that won him The Best Actors Award. As a Junior he was class president and on the Prom Court. He was a member and president of The Loyalty Council, The Latin Club, Thespians, Key Club and History Reading Member. Mark was in Varsity Basketball and a percussionist in the school band. Mark received the Arvold Award and scholarship for outstanding citizen. Mark went on to graduate from UW-Madison in 1978, with a degree in English Literature. He was united in marriage to Anita Hooverson on June 25, 1983. Mark was a co-owner of Grote & Sons Painting Contractors, where he took a leadership roll as the controller for the business and became a Board of Trustees member for the health and welfare, pension and apprenticeship funds for the Painters Union.



He is survived by his wife, Anita; four children, Rachel (Manuel) Arguijo, Leah Grote, Andy Gill and Stacy Gill; four grandchildren, Andrew Jr., Atreyu, Kyla and Arya; four siblings, Russ (Marla) Grote, Rich (Sandy) Grote, Ann Grote and Kurt Grote; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

A memorial service will be held at HOOVERSON FUNERAL HOME, 251 Water St., Sauk City, at 4 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 15, 2013. Friends may call from 3 p.m. until the time of service.
