Death11 May 2006Dr. Donald R. Kindschi died on 11 May 2006 at age 94 Donald R. Kindschi, age 94, died on Thursday, May 11, 2006, at Maplewood of Sauk Prairie. He was born in Prairie du Sac Township on Oct. 15, 1911, the son of the late Walter L. and Edith L. (Magli) Kindschi and grew up on a dairy farm in rural Sauk County, the oldest of four children. Donald went to a one-room country school, and then attended high school in Prairie du Sac. He then attended the University of Wisconsin, majoring in agronomy. After college graduation, he worked briefly for the Soil Conservation Service. Thereafter he attended Medical School and eventually took his residency in anesthesiology. He was in private practice in California for nine years and then accepted a position in teaching anesthesiology at a college in India from 1956 until 1961. After working in hospitals in Kentucky for Appalachian coal miners for several years, he completed his medical practice at the Veterans Hospital in Madison, retiring in 1979. Donald was active in the Nature Conservancy and was awarded it's highest honor, the Oak Leaf Award. In his retirement years, he assembled histories and genealogies of his four ancestral families, and sent copies to genealogical libraries and all living descendents. Donald was known for his generosity, supporting numerous charitable organizations while being frugal with himself, and will long be remembered for his combination of environmental and social concerns. He is survived by a son, Peter of Palo Alto, Calif; a sister, June (John) Zinos of San Juan Capo, Calif; a brother, Jean Walter (Ruth) of Bellevue, Wash; and many other relatives and friends.
