Tony was married to the former Marlene Bauer on Aug. 25, 1956, at St. Luke's Catholic Church in Plain, and just celebrated with family their 50th wedding anniversary. Tony was a lifelong member of St. John's Catholic Church in Spring Green as well as a Knights of Columbus member. He was a retired farmer who enjoyed his family, especially his grandchildren who always brought a smile to his face. Tony is lovingly survived by his wife of 50 years, Marlene Gruber of Spring Green; daughters, Mary Jean (Jeff) Lidstone of Minnetonka, Minn., and Tammy (Emil) Diehl of Plain; sons, John (Rita) Gruber of Spring Green, and Carl (Rhonda) Gruber of Baraboo; his extended family, Sue (Mike) Corcoran of Madison, Rick (Sandy) and Fred (Tami) Gruber, both of Spring Green, and Greg (Mary) Gruber of Mauston; his grandchildren, who were the loves and meaning to his life, Derrick Lidstone, Chelsea, Andrea and Cody Diehl, Courtney Gruber, Matt and Taylor Jahn, Carter Gruber, Megan Corcoran, Toni, Ty, Taylor, Tanner and Tienna Gruber, and Jeni and Hailey Gruber; a sister, Helen Jax of Gotham; a sister-in-law, Donna Gruber of Spring Green; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony and Clara Gruber; a daughter-in-law, Rita Gruber, on Sept. 3, 2006; sisters, Aunt Lou Brey, Aggie Blau and Clara Louis; and brothers, Joe, Fred and Ray Gruber. Tony's love for his family has been the inspiration for his life through his years. A Mass in Memory of Tony will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2006, at ST. JOHN'S CATHOLIC CHURCH in Spring Green at 11 a.m. Father Mike Resop will officiate with burial in the church cemetery. A gathering will be held with appetizers and desserts. Visitation will be held on Monday, Sept. 11, 2006, at ST. JOHN'S CATHOLIC CHURCH from 4 p.m. - 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John's Memorial Fund. She was born on March 4, 1935, the daughter of Joseph and Marian (Laubmaier) Bauer. Marlene was married to Anthony 'Tony' Gruber, on August 25, 1956, at St. Luke' s Catholic Church in Plain. She was a lifelong member of St. John' s Catholic Church, in Spring Green, as well as a PCCW member. Marlene and Tony started the Monday morning prayer group, at St. John' s Church, in 2002.

Marlene' s first priority in life was her family, her husband, her children and her grandchildren. She also had successful careers at Capital Airlines, the Round Barn Lodge and Restaurant, the Spring Green Restaurant and Arthur' s. Marlene enjoyed helping her son-in-law at I-Diehl Tap and meeting new people, while developing lasting friendships. She loved watching and cheering on her favorite teams, the Brewers, the Packers, and especially her grandchildren playing sports. She was their biggest fan and so proud of them. Marlene loved to travel and started during her years at Capital Airlines.

Marlene is lovingly survived by her daughters, Mary Jean (Jeff) Lidstone of Minnetonka, Minn., Tammy (Emil) Diehl of Plain; her sons, John Gruber of Spring Green, Carl (Rhonda) Gruber of Baraboo; her extended family, Sue (Mike) Corcoran of Madison, Rick (Sandy) and Fred (Tami) Gruber of Spring Green and Greg (Mary) Gruber of Mauston; her grandchildren, who were the loves and meaning to her life, Derrick Lidstone, Chelsea, Andrea and Cody Diehl, Matthew and Taylor Jahn, Carter Gruber, Megan Corcoran, Toni, Ty, Taylor, Tanner and Tienna Gruber, Jeni and Hailey Gruber; her sisters, Donna (Ray, deceased) Gruber of Spring Green, Evelyn (Gerald) Watson of Dodgeville, Betty Ann (Harlan) Meister of Chatham, Ill., and Delores (Eugene) Neuheisel of Spring Green; a sister-in-law, Helen Jax of Gotham; a brother-in-law; Bill Bergman of Plain; nieces; nephews; and other relatives and friends.

Marlene was preceded in death by her husband, Tony; her parents, Marian and Joseph Bauer; her daughter-in-law, Rita Gruber; her granddaughter, Courtney Kessenich Gruber; her sisters, Mary Bauer, Luella (Butch) Haas, Josephine Bauer, and Gerri Bergman.

A Mass in Memory of Marlene will be held on Wednesday, November 25, 2009, at ST. JOHN' S CATHOLIC CHURCH, in Spring Green, at 11 a.m. Father Mike Resop will officiate, with burial in the church cemetery, with a gathering following at ST. JOHN' S CATHOLIC CHURCH HALL. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 24, 2009, at ST. JOHN' S CATHOLIC CHURCH, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., and on Wednesday, at the church, from 10 a.m., until the time of Mass.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Spring Green Community Food Pantry, which she was a supporter of, or scholarship assistance for River Valley, St. Luke and St. John students.

He had been in failing health for the past six months due to heart complications. Leonard was born on Dec. 13, 1930, in Cazenovia, son of the late Leonard J. and Lucille "Kitty" (Ferguson) Jax. The family moved to Richland Center in 1942. Lenny attended St. Mary's Catholic School and Richland Center High School, where he excelled in sports, including football, boxing and track. His relay team set a longstanding state high school record. After graduation in 1950, Lenny worked in Milwaukee for the Schlitz Brewing Company and Gateway Transportation Company. He married the former Helen Gruber of Spring Green in 1956. Together they operated Lenny and Helen's Bar in Gotham. During the 1970s and 1980s, Lenny was the manager of the V.F.W. Club in Richland Center. Throughout his life, Lenny was an outdoorsman, tramping the hills of Richland County, hunting small game and gathering hickory nuts with his favorite companions, his children, and later, his grandchildren. His love of the hills and woods is Lenny's legacy to each of them. With his unique sense of fun and his exceptional ability to make people laugh, Lenny brought cheer and optimism to many, but most especially to frail and sick friends who could rely on his frequent visits. He is survived by his daughter, Debbi Ferguson, Gotham; two sons, Dan (Colleen) Jax, Mukwonago, and Dennie Jax, Madison; five grandchildren, Lucas and Travis Ferguson of Gotham, Kelly and Tori Jax of Mukwonago, and Alyssa Jax Marty of Black Earth. Also surviving are a brother, Gene (Norita) Jax, St. Paul, Minn; two sisters, Dawn Jax Belleau, Sheboygan, Sue Jax Balistreri and fiance, Jack Davidson, DeForest; nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 5, 2004, at ST. MARY'S CATHOLIC CHURCH, Richland Center. Father Emanuel Famiyeh will preside. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call on Sunday, April 4, 2004, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the STAFFORD FUNERAL HOME, Richland Center, and again on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of services at the church. Memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice. Lenny's family would like to take this opportunity to thank the entire 1st floor staff at Pine Valley, Dr. Bostwick and Dr. Evans at Richland Hospital, and all the special visits from friends for the love and support. She leaves behind her husband, a son and his wife, daughter and her husband, three stepchildren, three grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren, five step-great-grandchildren, a sister-in-law, nieces, nephews; along with other relatives and friends.
Preceding her in death, were her parents; a son, Larry Gruber in 1967; husbands, Michael Gruber and Homer Graber; brothers, Donald and Dale Standish; sister, Geraldine Standish; and sister-in-law, Lucille Standish.
Funeral services were held on Thusday atst. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hillpoint.
