Miss Barbara Jean Dubs and Paul Edward Broun were married February 23 at the Ashland Mountain View wedding chapel. The Rev. C. W. Frost of the Medford Apostolic Faith church performed the ceremony at 7:30 o'clock, in the evening. About 150 guests attended the wedding. The bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. Dubs, route 3, box 347, Medford, and the bridegroom, an airman first class in the Air Force, is a son of Mr and Mrs. E. A. Broun, 521 Beatty street. Miss Mildred Dubs, sister to the bride, was maid of honor and Miss Ellen Broun, sister to the bridegroom, was bridesmaid. The flower girl was, Janet Brown, Ashland, a niece to the bridegroom. Robert Brown, a brother to the bridegroom, was best man, and Arthur Dubs, brother of the bride, was groomsman. Ushers were Warren Hanlin and Leslie Broun, brother of the bridegroom. The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a slipper satin gown made with lace panels down the train and with a lace yoke. Her flowers were a cascade bouquet of carnations and stephanotis centered with an orchid. Her fingertip face veil was held in place by a pearl headpiece. Her sister wore a blue dress ahd carried pink carnations. Miss Broun's matching dress was pink and her bouquet was of blue carnations. The flower girl wore yellow organdy and each wore matching flower head pieces. Candle lighters were Miss Pat Boyd and Miss Ruby Bollinger, who wore matching gowns of blue and lavender organdy. The chapel was decorated with baskets of pink and white snapdragons and candelabra. Mrs. James Williams played the organ and Duane E. Jones sang. The reception was attended by about 175 guests. Mrs. Roy Frymire cut the wedding cake Miss Joan Brown had charge of the guest book and Miss Boyd and Miss Bollinger poured, while Mrs. Arthur Dubs took charge of wedding gifts. The bride and bridegroom have lived in this vicinity their entire lives. The bride was employed as a bookkeeper at American Fruit Growers, Inc., and the bridegroom now is stationed with the Air Force at Colorado Springs, Colo. They will make their home there after March 20. They made their wedding trip to Washington state. Out-of-town guests were the Rev. and Mrs. Roy Frymire, Eureka, Calif., Mrs. Frymire being a sister to the bride, and Robert A Broun, Bremerton, Wash., brother of the bridegroom, now serving with the Navy.

She lived her 91 years in Southern Oregon. She passed from this life, into heaven on the morning of March 13, 2023 with her three daughters caring for and sharing her final days with her.

She was preceded in death by her father, mother, sisters Lillian Dubs, Bernetta Dubs Andrews, Lois Dubs Frymire, Marie Dubs Jones, Mildred Dubs Friesen, and brother A.R. Dubs, who were greatly missed.

Barbara attended school in Phoenix, Oregon, graduating from Phoenix High School in 1950. She maintained lifelong friends from those years. She participated in the school orchestra and choir and loved the competition of sports.

In 1953, Barbara was married to Paul Edward Brown of Medford and after being stationed briefly in Colorado Springs (US Air Force) they returned to settle in Medford, Oregon. In 1955, Barbara started her career as bookkeeper and confidential secretary for her brother, Arthur’s construction company, A.R. Dubs Custom Homes. In 1969 they added movie corporation, Pacific International Enterprises, to their office. Barbara’s position then transitioned to also include Treasurer/Controller. After 46 years, at the age of 70 she retired to enjoy time with her family, church, and to travel.

Outside of work, she enjoyed playing the violin in her church orchestra, Apostolic Faith Church, Medford, Oregon. She was their first chair violinist for many years. She also sang in their choir throughout her life. Barbara loved to go camping with her family, hunting from when she was young, and fishing for salmon. She did so at every opportunity. She maintained her beautiful yards. Working outside was one of her most relaxing, enjoyable tasks. She felt blessed to have been able to travel in the US (Alaska and Hawaii), Europe, Australia, Mexico, and various other countries. She spoke of her travels often with family and caregivers.

She leaves a legacy of love for her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and her loving family. Barbara is survived by her daughters and son-in-laws, Denise (Dave) McCollum of Grants Pass, Oregon, Teresa (Terry) Hay of Central Point, Oregon and Angela (Jon) Friesen of Wilsonville, Oregon. She will be missed by her grand-children, Donald, Christina Taylor, Branden Hay, Aaron (Sharifa) Hay, Breanna (Nick) Cook, Christopher, Luke (Blanca) Friesen, Ashley, Makena, Kayla, and Isaac Friesen. Also very missed by her ten great-grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter.

A memorial service for Barbara will be held for family and friends. Friday, March 24, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. Apostolic Faith Church - 285 Sunrise Ave, Medford, Oregon 97504.

Paul Hofer officiating. Burial was in Fort Bliss National Cemetery. Ferdig died Oct. 3 at his home in Las Cruces. He was born July 8, 1919, at Yankton, the son of Alfred and Rosanna C. Ferdig. He married Joyce A. Ferdig Oct. 18, 1937. He attended the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology in Rapid City from 1937 to 1940 graduating with a civil engineering degree. He served in the military during World War II and was discharged in 1945. He worked at the Black Hills Ordinance Depot from 1946 to 1947 and from 1949 to 1958. In 1959 the couple moved to New Mexico where he worked at the White Sands Missile Range. He retired in 1973. Ferdig is survived by his wife, Joyce of Las Cruces; one son, Vincent of Fort Lauderdale, Fla; one daughter, Capt. Bernie Ferdig stationed at Fort Gordon, Ga. , four grandchildren, one great-grandson; one brother, Frank of Pittsburg, Pa., and two sisters, Evelyn Walton of Yankton and Rose Ferdig of Viborg.
