At 9:30 this morning a funeral service was held in St. Luke's Catholic Church for Mrs. John Blau who died at her home in Plain Monday at about 12:30 a.m. Mrs. Blau who was 68, had been in ill health for many years.
The former Caroline Gruber was born in the Town of Bear Creek February 27, 1881, the daughter of Michael and Frances Ruhland Gruber. Her marriage to John Blau, who survives her took place September 17, 1901. The ceremony was performed by Rev. John Laurer in St. Luke's Church. The Blaus made their home on a farm south of Plain until 1928 when they retired and moved to Plain.
Besides her husband, Mrs. Blau is also survived by one son, Herman of Plain; three daughters, Mrs. Ray Ring of Prairie du Sac, Mrs. Norbert Pings and Mrs. George Wiedenfield of Sauk City; 17 grandchildren and five great grandchildren; two brothers, Michael and Anton Gruber of Spring Green; and six sisters, Mrs. Joseph Alt of Bear Creek, Mrs. John Haas and Mrs. Alois Pletzer of Spring Green, Mrs. Joseph Blau, Mrs. Simon Nachreiner and Mrs. John Brechtl of Plain. She was preceded in death by her son Michael who died at the age of 19, her parents, and a brother, Joseph Gruber.
Rev. P. A. Beschta officiated at the funeral service and burial was in the church cemetery. The pallbearers were two grandsons, Cletus Ring and Eugene Pings, and four nephews, George Blau, Willard Brechtl, Leonard Pletzer and Tony Gruber, Jr.

Although Mrs. Mary Brey had no children of her own, her death is mouned by a large group of foster children whom she raised. Mrs. Brey died at her home in Plain Wednesday afternoon, and will be buried after a funeral service at St. Luke's church Saturday morning at 9. Mrs. Brey was born December 25, 1863, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mike Blau, and was 85 at the time of her death. Her first marriage was to Daniel Brickl. After his death she married John Ruhland, whole death left her a widow a second time. Her third marriage was to George Brey who also preceded her in death. Mrs. Brey raised four step-children; Mrs. Eulalia Ratzer of Evanston, Ill., Isador Brey of Madison, and George and Arthur Brey of Plain, as well as an adopted daughter, Mrs. Phillip [Elizabeth Cavanaugh] Bettinger Sr. of Plain, and two foster children, Mrs Marie [Walsh] Weitzer of Cleveland and Frank Blau of Merrimac. Besides those she is also survived by a sister, Mrs. Simon Brickl, and a brother, John Blau, both of Plain.

George Brey was stricken last Thursday evening while visiting with a neighbor and died four hours later. Mr. Brey was one of Sauk county's substantial citizens, respected by all who knew him. While he was troubled with high blood pressure and on two occasions had severe hemorrhages from the nose, Mr. Brey had been feeling good until the night of his death. He retired from the farm in 1920 and removed to Plain, where he helped in the meat market of Blau & Ring, where his service and companionship are missed. George Brey was born in Germany in 1864 and came to America at the age of sixteen years. He first married Theresia Liegel, who preceed him in death in 1903. To them were born five children: Arthur, George, Eulalia, Isadore and Leo, the latter dying at the age of nineteen years. In 1904, Mr. Brey married Mrs. Mary Ruhland, who with four children and nine grandchildren, survive. The funeral was held at St. Luke's church last Saturday conducted by Rev. Chas. Surgess. Relatives from a distance present were Mr. and Mrs. Jos. Meyers of Chicago and Mr. and Mrs. Isadore Brey, John Ring, Mrs. Clem Ring, Mrs Tressie Conley of Madison, Mrs. Frank Lunenschloss of Richland Center and Alfred Frick of Elkader, Iowa.
