Death27 September 2008Pearl Ida Mollet died on 27 September 2008 at Marion, Oregon, at age 101 Pearl Ida Langeland July 4, 1907 - September 27, 2008 SALEM - She was born July 4, 1907 in Corvallis, Oregon while her parents, Charles and Nellie Mollet were on vacation. She grew up and attended school in Lake Andes, South Dakota and graduated from Southern State Normal College in Springfield, South Dakota. She rode horseback to the one room schools where she taught. In 1929, she married Carl T. Langeland and they lived on a farm where their three children were born. In 1943, they moved to Salem, Oregon. She attended Western Oregon College of Education where she received her B.A. Degree. In the summers, she was a Bean Platoon Leader in the West Stayton area. She taught at Mission Bottom School, Keizer, and Cummings Elementary and in Woodburn before her retirement in 1972. She was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church in Salem for many years and later joined Faith Lutheran Church near her home in Keizer. She taught Sunday School and Bible School, was a member of Faith Seniors and Women's Bible Study Group. She served as a reading volunteer at the current Keizer Elementary School; was a member of the Westmoreland Garden Club, and the Sons of Norway Thor Lodge where she received a 30 year membership pin. She was one of the principal organizers of the Senior Meals Program at Faith Lutheran Church. One of her greatest joys was serving on the Keizer School Heritage Board and seeing the completion of the historic renovation project. She enjoyed a cruise to Alaska, three trips to Norway, A National Christian Educators Conference at Wagner College in New York, and a Lutheranland Tour. She moved to Willamette Lutheran Retirement Community in 1995 and in 1997, was granted the Volunteer of the Year Award. Pearl was an excellent writer of short stories and several were included at the Annual Senior Short Story Writers events held at the University of Oregon. When she needed Assisted Living, she moved to Regency Woodland near her family in South Salem. Pearl loved her family and enjoyed reunions and gatherings, especially her birthday parties on the 4th of July. Pearl is survived by her sons, Rev. Melvin C. Langeland (Shirley) of Pomona, California and Rev. Marvin L. Langeland (Amy) of Salem; daughter, Lorraine Hickman of Salem; nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Ruth Mollet; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl T. Langeland; son-in-law, Edward Grace; granddaughter, Kathryn Aronson; and brothers, Walter, Harold, and Glen Mollet. Pearl will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She will always be remembered for her cheerful smile. A viewing will be from 1 to 5 p.m. on Friday, October 3 at Keizer Funeral Chapel. There will be a Commital Service at 12 p.m. on Saturday, October 4 at Restlawn Memory Gardens, 201 Oak Grove Rd. NW., Salem followed by a Memorial Service of Celebration at 2 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church, 4505 River Rd. N., Keizer. Memorial contributions may be made to Faith Lutheran Church in Keizer or the Keizer Heritage Foundation. The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff persons of Regency Woodland and Willamette Valley Hospice for their loving care. Arrangements by Keizer Funeral Chapel.

She was born February 18, 1916, in Fremont, Nebraska, to August and Emma Nelsen. Mrs. Shimp was a member of Faith Lutheran Church and resided in Woodland Heights Retirement Community.

Mrs. Shimp, a talented pianist, taught vocal music and piano for more than 30 years, retiring to Belle Fourche, SD. Her retirement years were spent living in the McAllen, Texas, area before moving to Little Rock in 1999 to be near her daughter and family.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Wayne Nelsen; husbands Harold Mollet and Fred Shimp; and son-in-law Ronald Jacobs.

Her survivors are her son and daughter-in-law, Lanning and Fran Mollet; daughter, Marcia Jacobs; daughter and son-in-law, Charla and Bob Shimp; seven grandchildren: Chris and Brad Mollet; Brent, Dayne and Corey Jacobs; Jenny Flake and Josie Abrams; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 22, 2005, at Faith Lutheran Church, 7525 W. Markham St., Little Rock, AR. Burial will be in Winner, South Dakota.

Honorary pallbearers will be granddaughters; DeAnna, Kristine and Kendra Mollet, Sheila and Tammy Dohanick, Shannah Mollet-Kreller, Stephanie Mattila and Jenny Olson. Military honors will be provided by Hansen-Hayes American Legion Post 178 and Siemers-Hakes VFW Post 10794. Wayne was born Feb. 4, 1924 in Lake Andes, S.D. to Delbert and Birdie (McIntire) Mollet. When Wayne was three years old, they moved to the Milaca area where Wayne attended local country schools. Wayne married Doris Heim on Aug. 8, 1948 in Ogilvie. The couple farmed north of Bock where they raised five children. Wayne worked for Orin Thompson Homes for 30 years as a cement finisher. In later years, he drove van for the Milaca DAC. He loved to pitch horseshoes, shoot pool, and fish. He was envied for his vegetable and flower gardens. He enjoyed traveling and sightseeing with his family. Wayne was an avid Twins fan and enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren play softball over the years. Wayne was a member of the Emanuel Lutheran Church in Bock where he served on the church council. He also served on the Borgholm Township Board.

Peterson-Johnson Funeral Home of Milaca. Doris Mildred Mollet was born December 31, 1926 in Lignite, ND to John and Anna (Kleppe) Heim. As a young girl, she moved with her family to Ogilvie, MN. She was united in marriage to Wayne Mollet on August 8, 1948 in Ogilvie, MN. The couple farmed north of Bock where they raised their five children. Doris was a homemaker and farm wife. She enjoyed caring for her children and grandchildren. Doris took great pride in her cooking, her flower gardens and canning. She also loved music. Doris was a member of the Emanuel Lutheran Church in Bock where she was active in church circles and sang in the church choir. She was also a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. Wayne and Doris sold the farm in 2006 and moved to Country Meadows Assisted Living in Milaca. She died on Wednesday, March 7, 2012 at the Milaca Elim Home. She is survived by children, Lola Rae (Wally) Dohanick of Milaca, Darrell (Pauline) Mollet of Milaca, Rodney (Carol) Mollet of Dassel, LuAnn (Robert) Olson of Ramsey, and Myron (Carol) Mollet of Milaca; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; sister, Cleone Fokken of Milaca; brothers, Gordon (Helen) Heim of Mora and Lyle (Julie) Heim of Little Rock, AK; sister-in-law, Pietje Heim of Rochester, MN; also by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wayne in 2006; sister, Marian Strathe and brothers, Julian Heim and Roy Heim.

Geesey, at Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Jan. 17, 1953, at 10:55 p.m., at the age of 84 years, 2 months and 13 days. She had been in failing health for some time and submitted to three major operations within the last two years. Regardless of her own misery, she always found time to do for others, and thoughts of others were foremost in her mind.

Mrs. Walstrom was born at Highland, Ill., and when a small child traveled by covered wagon with her parents, Joseph and Mary Mollet, to South Dakota, where the family homesteaded. In 1887 she was united in marriage to David Wesley Hook, who preceded her in death as did two daughters, Mrs. A. J. Towlerton (Laura) and Mrs. George W. Sellers (Bertha), and four grandchildren. She was united in marriage to Jones Walstrom who also preceded her in death June 14, 1942 and three step-children, George and John Walstrom and Mrs. Anna Stephens.

She leaves to mourn her passing; a son, Roy, of Stratford; Mrs. Isabell Geesey of Cedar Rapids; five grandchildren; Julius Hook of Stratford, Marvin and Donald Hook of Denver, Colo., Jane Warden of Cedar Rapids, Lois Frees of Minneapolis, four step-grandchildren, three great grandchildren, besides a host of friends and neighbors.

Mrs. Walstrom was especially interested in church and Auxilary work and in the local Royal Neighbor Lodge.

Funeral services were held from Calvary Methodist church in Stratford Jan. 20, 1953, at 2 p.m., following a brief prayer service in the home, with Rev. Otto S. Steele, Jr., officiating. Three vocal selections were sung by Mrs. Otto Steele; "The Old Rugged Cross", "Abide With Me", and "Let Not Your Heart Be Troubled." She was accompanied by Mrs. Ronald Bell at the organ.

Flowers were in charge of Mrs. Clarence Johnson, Mrs. Weldon Swedlund and Mrs. Lloyd Ulrick.

A Legion Auxiliary service was conducted by Mrs. Ruby Hubner and Mrs. Carl Sackrison. Interment was in Oakwood cemetery.

Pallbearers were: M.C.Carlson, I. L. Chally, R. J. Gustafson, Carl Johnson, Julius Johnson and Basil Williams.

Both were in charge of the pastor, the Rev. J.G. Waterman, who used for his remarks words found in the 24th chapter of Luke. Mrs. Harold Westrum sang two songs, being accompanied by Mrs. Ronald Bell. Interment was in the Oakwood cemetery. The pallbearers were: Bert Wilson, Basi Williams of Lehigh, William Trueblood, Franklin Rose, M.C. Carlson, H.A. Olander.

Mrs. Sellers died following a major operation. She was 57 years old. Besides her mother she is survived by a brother, Roy Hook, of Stratford, and a sister, Mrs. Isabelle Geesey, of Cedar Rapids, and five stepchildren: Mrs. Manila Niles of St. Louis, Mo., Mrs. Kathryn Boyd and Leo Sellers of Memphis, Tenn., Mrs. Frankie Harger of Alhambra, Calif., and Carl Sellers of Marshalltown. Her husband died in 1943 and a son, Harold, died in 1922.

Mrs. Sellers was a former Stratford girl, was born and grew to young womanhood here. The many friends of the bereaved extend sincere sympathy.

There remain to mourn her early departure, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. David Hook, her sorrowing husband, one son, two sisters, Mrs. George Sellers and Mrs. Isabell Geesey of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and one brother, LeRoy Albert Hook, who is in the U.S. army.

Mrs. Towlerton gave her heart to God in her early years and united with the Christian church. She had a clear evidence of her acceptance with Christ and died happy in the hope of eternal life.

The funeral services were held at Stratford last Wednesday afternoon at 3 o'clock from the residence of Mrs. David Hook, the services being conducted by Rev. J.H. Eslick. The remains were laid to rest in the Oakwood cemetery.

In 1887 she was united in marriage to David Wesley Hook, who preceded her in death as did two daughters, Mrs. A. J. Towlerton (Laura) and Mrs. George W. Sellers (Bertha), and four grandchildren. She was united in marriage to Jones Walstrom who also preceded her in death June 14, 1942 and three step-children, George and John Walstrom and Mrs. Anna Stephens.

She leaves to mourn her passing; a son, Roy, of Stratford; Mrs. Isabell Geesey of Cedar Rapids; five grandchildren; Julius Hook of Stratford, Marvin and Donald Hook of Denver, Colo., Jane Warden of Cedar Rapids, Lois Frees of Minneapolis, four step-grandchildren, three great grandchildren, besides a host of friends and neighbors.

Mrs. Walstrom was especially interested in church and Auxilary work and in the local Royal Neighbor Lodge.

Funeral services were held from Calvary Methodist church in Stratford Jan. 20, 1953, at 2 p.m., following a brief prayer service in the home, with Rev. Otto S. Steele, Jr., officiating. Three vocal selections were sung by Mrs. Otto Steele; "The Old Rugged Cross", "Abide With Me", and "Let Not Your Heart Be Troubled." She was accompanied by Mrs. Ronald Bell at the organ.

Flowers were in charge of Mrs. Clarence Johnson, Mrs. Weldon Swedlund and Mrs. Lloyd Ulrick.

A Legion Auxiliary service was conducted by Mrs. Ruby Hubner and Mrs. Carl Sackrison. Interment was in Oakwood cemetery.

Pallbearers were: M.C.Carlson, I. L. Chally, R. J. Gustafson, Carl Johnson, Julius Johnson and Basil Williams.
