CRACROFT was born in Sauk County, Wisconsin in 1847. When he was only seventeen years of age, with consent of his father, he enlisted in the Third United States Calvary, where he served until the close of the war. His services were mostly on the frontier, in Missouri and Kansas, and the Indian Territory. He married Frances HAMILTON in Helena, Montana. He was taken sick and died in Hot Springs, Arkansas in July, 1882.
