Birth8 August 1924Vincent J. Duren was born on 8 August 1924 at Cazenovia, Richland, Wisconsin.
He was the son of Rinold Nicklas Duren and Anna M. Murphy.
Marriage30 September 1950Vincent J. Duren married Jane Rita Zielinski, daughter of Henry Zielinski and Eva Truskowski, on 30 September 1950.
Death9 October 2016Vincent J. Duren died on 9 October 2016 at age 92 Vincent J. Duren farmer, community leader, family man and friend to many, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family the morning of Sunday October 9, 2016 at the age of 92. He was the first of eight children, born August 8, 1924 to Rinold and Anne (Murphy) Duren, and was a lifelong resident of Cazenovia. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Matthew Todd Duren; siblings, Ryne, Lawrence, Edward, Veronica (Bonnie) and Annette.

He served in the US Army Air Corps during WWII, with most of that time spent in the Pacific theatre. He returned home at the conclusion of the war and attended Marquette University as a beneficiary of the GI bill. It was during this time in Milwaukee that he met his bride of 66 years, Jane Rita Zielinski. Jane and Vincent were married September 30th, 1950 and moved to Cazenovia shortly after.

Vince served his community as a rural mail carrier for over 40 years and then as postmaster until his retirement.

One does not need to look far to find a community interest not touched by Vince’s hand and legacy of humble service. He was a lifelong member of St Anthony parish. His contributions can also be seen through his volunteer work starting with becoming one of the first Emergency Medical Technicians trained for the Cazenovia area in 1972. He served as a volunteer firefighter and Fire Chief and on many boards including the Weston School District Board, LaValle Telephone Cooperative, and Cazenovia Village Board. Vincent was a member of the American Legion Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 491. In 2008, he was recognized for his many years of community service as a “100 Year Volunteer” by the Wisconsin State Legislature.

Vincent and Jane purchased the Duren family farm in 1961 from his parents, continuing a legacy and tradition of stewardship of the land in Westford Township. His work and management of The Duren Family Farm included dairy farming, raising beef cattle and managing the forest. He loved deer hunting with family and friends and later in his life taking long walks to admire the majesty of the big woods.

Vincent was optimistic and kind-hearted, and spoke the truth in love. With smiling eyes and an ornery smile, he loved life and lived it well. He enjoyed telling stories and jokes, but also didn’t mind being the target of them.

Above all else, Vince’s life centered on his family. Those left to cherish his memory include his beloved wife Jane; daughter Debora Duren of Sister Bay, WI, and grandson Sam Forkert; son David (Whitney Kemp) Duren, grandson Jack of Nashville TN, granddaughter Heather(Kast) Purin(Tim) great-grand daughters Brynn, Tess, and Tatum of Mt. Horeb,Wi; son Douglas (Trisha) Duren and granddaughter Eleanor of Madison; son Mark (Diana) Duren and granddaughters Grace and Lily of Nashville TN; daughter Theresa (Mike Beeth) Duren and grandchildren Quentin and Eva Beeth of Oshkosh WI and his sisters: Mary Helen Hecht of Racine, WI and Barbara Glaysher of Madison, WI.

Services celebrating Vince’s life will be conducted at 10:30 AM on Saturday, November 26, 2016, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Germantown, with Father Wesley Janowski officiating. Burial will follow in St. Anthony’s Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday, November 25 from 5:00 until 8:00 PM at the Cazenovia Chapel, Cazenovia, and on Saturday from 9:30 AM until the time of the service at the church.

The most famous resident sports figure (of Cazenovia) was Ryne Duren, who gained fame as a pitcher for the New York Yankees. He played a major role in defeating the favored Milwaukee Braves the the 1958 World Series. Ryne is remembered for one of the most wicked fastballs hurled in the major league. He once pitched over 30 consecutive innings for the Yankees without giving up a run, and he shares a major-league record for having struck out seven consecutive batters.

JAMES PRUNTY, chairman of Ellington township and one of the leading agriculturists of his section, is a son of Patrick H. Prunty.

He was born March 15, 1872, on the homestead farm in Ellington township, and after attending the district schools of his neighborhood entered the High school in Appleton, where he continued three years. He then taught district school No. 4, Ellington township, for one year, after which he rented a farm near Aberdeen, South Dakota, for two years. During the two years that followed he was engaged in railroad construction in North Dakota and Minnesota, and he then went to Superior, Wisconsin, where for one year 919 e was engaged in the wood and coal business with his brothers, Patrick L. and Michael E. They also made their headquarters there for jobbing in lumbering, and in 1899 returned to the-old homestead.

In 1900, with his brother, Michael E., Mr. Prunty began working the home farm for his father, and in 1904 the brothers purchased the land, their father retiring in the following year and moving to Appleton, where he now resides. Mrs. Prunty died during the winter of 1909. On October 6, 1908, Mr. Prunty was married to Lillie Louise Kimm, daughter of Francis and Julia (Downing) Kimm, of Minnesota, Mrs. Prunty having been reared in Mankato, that State. Mr. and Mrs. Prunty have one son, Kimm Patrick, born January 23, 1910. They belong to St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church. In politics Mr. Prunty is a Democrat, but he relies on his own judgment to tell him the best man for the position. He was township clerk for two terms, township assessor for a like period, and in the spring of 1911 was elected to the office of township chairman, in which capacity he is now acting.6
